That was just a unit in the power house coming online. Not flood gates. The gates holding water back at the top of the dam are called Tainter gates and they only open in flood conditions. The power company wants to flow as much water through the turbine as possible and not let it through the flood gates unless necessary. Great video keep up the good work.

stay safe out on the river guys. I've been a river rat my whole life. I've had some super sketchy close calls with water releases. lol. it almost more dangerous down river at least where i live because you don't get any warnings.
