Your friend is awesome for this! I would try to add large males as well. You can usually catch the males when they're protecting the beds but doing so will leave the eggs to prey which is probably why Sam let's his females go before the males. That big female will provide good genes for future bass tho bro. Good addition to your pond at the least.

I have a friend with a private pond and I have a little idea of what it is like Just a little. Lol. Also when spring time comes around this pond is always 1st to warm up and I catch my 1st 20 bass before all my friends. I have caught a 5-1/4 lb and a 4-3/4lb there which is pretty good for Vineland N. J. I would pay good to catch one like your's.

I don't know, I just don't understand the excitement. Maybe it's a Southern thing that I can't relate to because of all the natural lakes in WI where I live. Catching these stocked fish in square man-made ponds with mowed borders looks about as fun as fishing for goldfish in a toilet bowl.

That's impressive, but honestly, she's the equal of Hogzilla. She's been raised in a domesticated environment with regular feedings. It's more exciting to find a big one in the wild rather than a monster that has been fattened up for the state fair.

The University of Texas published a study that showed bass over 6lbs that were handled by the lip only developed ligament damage that prevented feeding. This will lead to eventual death of the fish, never lip an over 6lb if you want it to live.

Even though the fish did not looked stressed, I would have carried the cooler with the fish in it to the pond, to minimize any stress for the fish. Good for you for making a fish sanctuary.
