In this video I remove thousands of harmful plants from my pond that would potentially hurt my fish! WIN A WAVERUNNER! Victor0326: Lily pads are close to grass or bamboo where they expand by root connections rather than just relying on flowers. Although the process can take many years, they will continue to grow year after year even when they appear to subside on other years and hence why you need to grab them by the roots where they multiply from. But Lily pads provide oxygen to the water ecosystem. By taking in oxygen from their leaf into the stem, they keep afloat and this oxygen can diffuse from the stem into the water much like how a balloon loses oxygen. But all plants, including lilies need oxygen in the night time because well, there's no sunlight, and you know how photosynthesis works, so plants actually use oxygen when there is no light and burn their own sugars for respiration. This combined with dying, decaying plants can cause oxygen depletion, but only because for these reasons. Virginia State University recommends that 25% of the surface as a recommendation, but water lilies should have a higher tolerance as compared to algae or other water plants.

Jorden! those roots you pulled out are lotus plants roots it's very hard to control it you have to dig those roots out so it doesn't grow back, you need to get or make a tool to help you easier next time. In Asia people have the tools to harvest the lotus roots because they are eating the roots like potatoes. You can search to get the tools. Because in the muddy waters is not good for your health. And I don't want you to work to hard to remove those lotus roots. Luv all of your videos, your pondand Sam pond are awesome.

according to google, While invasive in some areas, water lilies are native and beneficial in other areas. Water lilies grow in the calm shoreline waters of lakes and ponds. In moderate quantities, these plants greatly benefit their habitats by providing shelter for fish and shade to keep the water cool. Water lilies provide safe spaces for frogs to perch on their leaves, hiding from underwater predators. Lilies also produce natural oxygen that allows fish to breathe and beneficial bacteria to thrive.

Why is everyone hating the gator. its literally in it's own environment, we've been pushing them out of their home for years and that's why we see so many dead on the side of the road, they have nowhere else to go. So no, the gator should not go. People should know better than to get close to the pond. Put up some signs saying there is a gator. Its florida, american alligators are endangered as is.

I live on the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway and we have had an issue with water hyacinths, and the corps of engineers spray chemicals on the plants to get rid of them but it has absolutely destroyed our water quality and the quality of fishing. If you read this commend please help us by sending a letter to the governor of Alabama on how to change our policies of taking care of this infestation.

I see a problem with removing all these lilies without adding lots of oxygenic new species. You're going to have nothing taking up the fish waste if you don't keep it heavily planted and that will cause an ammonia spike and mass fish death. Make sure you plant it heavily and don't remove all the lilies until more plants take over.

I bet there are some crazy spikes of fecal coliform in that water when it rains in the area. All the local pets and wildlife that poo near the roads and storm drains will definitely cause some contamination. Not to mention oils or anything else spilled on the roads will get washed in. Risky getting in that water.

The plants dont pull oxygen out of the water. when they cover the surface they stop gas exchange which is where oxygen gets into the water. The plants actually remove excess nutrients from the water and provide tons of breeding areas for smaller fish.

Hey I got a question man do you live in a gated community? Cuz you said it's you all pawn but I see like a tennis court and other houses. do you live in the area and you just claim to the pond as your own even though it's everyone's pond?

I used to do this as a job. You aint gonna kill them unless you kill the roots. Use diaquat in small concentrations with a small tank and sprayer. It aint going to hurt your fish. And get that gator out of there.
