Hum? So you came quickly off throttle and somewhat bypassed neutral and touched into reverse? How does that manage to destroy the top end. I can understand that if your boar transom is sitting low and your mid-section exhaust port does allow water to intrude, but ONLY IF THE MOTOR ISN't running! Sure, trying to compression water into cylinder head will surely bend a rod or two, but where did you mention that you turned the motor off. Touching reverse 4300rpm can easily shear a lower end prop gear, & maybe damage the housing, but ruining the top end? What am I missing here?

I hit a granite embankment under the surface of a lake in Texas. We finally got the boat to ground but was marooned for over 4hrs. The damage seemed to be only to the engine but after investigation the hull was also damaged.
Needless to say it was costly, so we elected to purchase a new boat.
Was the most expensive fishing trip I was ever on.
Well, that was 20yrs ago and I recovered but I do hurt for you. Look on the VERY bright side, you have a real sweetheart (all respect intended) to cheer you up, and thank GOD you are both safe.

Thank goodness no one got hurt when that line snapped off. Brian and Darci make my day. You cant be down in the mouth long when they are doing their thing and sharing. 12K sure sounds like an awful lot to get an outboard fixed for just the power head but I'm judging by Oklahoma standards. I've got a 1955 SEA-KING 7. 5 hp and the parts for it are made from pure platinum apparently. 'sall relative Bubba

Accidents happen buddy you cant beat yourself up over mistakes. Ive made so many mistakes that Ive spent half my life wishing my knees bent the other way so I could kick my own you know what. Mistakes are another word for expierences you take what you can from them and you press on. Keep your head up buddy and keep on fishing.

Brian if you want to become a millionaire as a fisherman, you have to start out as a billionaire. LOL. Boat cost a lot, so does the upkeep. I ask you, did you learn anything. OK, not NY but right across the bay in Highlands, but we had to go out on boats or pay to get into Sandy Hook. So I used to bum rides with my girlfriend's father on his boat. The only thing we caught off of the docks were Porgies.
