I know ya'll mentioned it in the video but didn't actually do it but trust me, bleeding them out (V notch their throats) in the water, gutting them, and icing them down in some good Yeti slush makes a huge difference in the quality of the meat. I do all that (bleeding and gutting) before I even bring them in the boat. When I grew up here in La Florida, we didn't have the luxury of picking and choosing what fish we kept and ate. My Dad and I supplemented our diet that his Park Ranger salary barely provided with a cast net and a few fishing poles. Even 12 foot cane poles were highly effective for bringing home a bucket full of Croaker, Margate, and Whiting and what we called Glass Nose Whiting and what I now know to be Atlantic Threadfin, from Hobe Sound Beach. We'd also just murder the Moonfish at the Coastguard dock by the Jupiter Lighthouse. Since we lived in Jonathan Dickinson State Park, the Loxahatchee River provided our fill of Snook, Mangrove Snapper, Sand Perch (Mojarra) and even Jack Crevalle made it to the charcoal grill after a good soak in Italian Dressing. Laugh all you want but those were good times.

Hey guys. So saw you guys cook the bluefish. There are plenty of ways to cook Blue fish and Jack Crevalle ( The have a similar flavor. To get the best result; before cooking the fish let it sit in apple vinegar and soy sauce. then do the whole salt and pepper thing. You can cook it many different ways. but breaded has been the best I have tasted so far.
As for eating blue fish in florida. grouper is my favorite fish. but every winter my family and I are always waiting for the bluefish. Cheers and Happy fishing!

I am from RI, and we love bluefish. Bleed it, gut it and bury it in ice. Marinate in lime juice, olive oil and salt for 15 minutes. Grill with sliced onions until flaky. I make a pesto and fresh tomato sauce. It is freaking awesome.
Tourist in Nantucket pay 40. 00/plate for bluefish.

not proper procedure. lol. but it taste good thanks guys. you can turn a cat rat or dog into a meal. and people do that in other nations. So I'm sure we can turn a so-called trash fish into a decent meal.

you should've just clean the blue fish by removing the guts, gills, and scales and the head if you want, and wash it over again and steam it with some seasonings of your choice

Good to see you cleaning these fish properly. taking out the lateral line! That recipe also works well with a nice salsa instead of the marinara sauce!
