I believe the different names for the Bluefish is mainly mid Atlantic terminology (and southern Florida where a lot of transplanted snowbirds are found, specially around the inlets found throughout the Outer Banks, N. C. where I've always caught my biggest Bluefish, you get a more diverse size range. While you do catch Blues in Florida's North Gulf Coast, they are usually not as big and all relatively the same size. There I've never heard any name for them other than Bluefish.

You were close with your identification. It is actually a member of the Barracuda family. It is properly called a Guachanche Barracuda (Sphyraena guachancho. They're an inshore species generally (rarely found to 100m) and can often be found in estuaries. They don't grow very big normally but they are considered good to eat in the Caribbean.

that unidentified fish looks like a pickhandle barracuda or mexican barracuda or pacific barracuda. here is a idea for a video as well, bring your flats boat down to fort lauderdale and troll those lures that you use inshore in the south fork new river. that is where i fish and i get lots of jack and snook.

Lesser Barracuda. the great barracuda is the normal big one. Lessers dont get big, maybe one pound but taste greattttt trust me. and probably a lot less mercury.
