How to Catch Clean and Cook a -LIONFISH- (DEADLY VENOMOUS ) Ian: You can't spearfish on scuba in California and I'm pretty sure it's that way for the other West coastal states as well. Spearfishing in general has a bad wrap in Florida from what I'm noticing. I had an FWC officer say -it's cheating-. I feel that freedive spearfishing is getting lumped in with scuba spearfishing and people have no idea what challenge and risks are involved with it. Either way, both are more ethical than dragging huge nets through the water and killing by-catch. (And in my personal opinion spearing is more ethical than pole fishing as well. I don't know how many times I've seen someone pole fishing with dead jack crevale, puffers, or catfish laying up on the jetty because -they were eating my bait-. Lastly the amount of mono I've taken off the reef is incredible, this includes hooks in birds and fish with long leaders running off them, potentially killing them if left) There needs to be a change in the public perception and spearfishing needs to be acknowledged for the good that it is (over any other form of harvesting. I think it's kind of bs that three are places where pole fishing is permitted but not spearfishing and no other way around. Why can't there be spearfishing exclusive places? Why don't we build artificial reefs that are only for spearfishers? Maybe a jetty or a state park too. Because right now that's how it is. only pole fishers allowed to fish jetties and state parks.

Not deadly unless you go into anaphylactic shock you should be fine. Get your sting site in the hottest water you can stand as quickly as you ca to break down the protean in the venom and the neurotoxin will break down by the heat. Because it is a neurotoxin it takes a few minutes to feel the effects other than the spine poke. Hurts a bit more than a wasp sting. Quickly diminishes when you put heat on it. I've been stunk twice and both times I never went to the ER or doctor. Just Hot water and was fine. Stone fish on the other hand is WAY worse. They have copious amounts of venom and you will requite medical attention ASAP. Lionfish are fantastic table fare and if you cut the spins off and bake them for 10 minutes at 200 deg make cool tooth picks.

Im no vegen or vegetarian but i dont like speerfishing this video proves it. Hits a fish and i bet it was no instant kill becouse it can go into hiding. +Im from europe and i prefere sweetwaterfish. Better quality: ) No better fish than a pike

Eh, I prefer to cook my fish whole. You can lose a lot of meat by fileting. The lionfish venom becomes inert with heat so its perfectly safe after cooking, even if you cook it up whole

Idk if you'll see this but the lobster tails have this rubbery outside skin its bust to parboil then then fillet the skin off. Thats why those Florida lobsters are always chewy.
