Im caribbean from the island from antigua, we eat alot of barracuda but if we catch a fish suspected to have Cig, theres a few tests we’ve done in the past that the old heads used to do.
The fly test, if u throw a piece of fillet outside and leave it for a while, if the flies dont swarm on it its bad,
Another is to stick a silver coin into the flash and if it turns black after a day then it has Cig
Then the last one is feed a piece to the neighbors cat and see if its around the next day lol.
But there is a way to eat fish with Cig and not get poisoned at all. It goes back to your no trash fish just trash cooks saying vic, the process is called corning

I used to go out on the Gulf Queen Charters out of Clearwater Beach, FL, which is an 85 person charter boat, and we used to put a hurting on big red grouper. The big ones pull SO hard, and they're SO much fun, and these memories make me miss living in Florida so much. I left Florida back in 2000, and I've lived near Pittsburgh since then, but I really do miss saltwater fishing, having my boat, and being able to go out on the Bay anytime I wanted to. I'm definitely moving back down before I die, and I'm only 42 now, so I'm hoping that day of death won't be for a while.

I've gotten ciguatera poisoning twice, full blown, once from Barracuda and another from Horse eye jack. It was the worst pain I've ever felt. All my joints ache while I'm throwing up and having diarrhea at the same time. Symptoms lasted for weeks, hot feel cold, cold feel hot. that thing was wicked.

I’m an Emergency Medicine physician in Naples, Fl
The only ciguatera toxicity I’ve seen was a
an entire family who ate a large barracuda they caught off Marco Island.
Great videos btw. I’m making that grouper dish soon!

We have been in Jamaica where the natives fish for barracuda. They let the chickens clean the
Skeleton and if the chickens get sick they don’t eat the cuda! Poor man’s test for cigaterra (sp)

Also, my dad caught and mounted a 7. 5 lb 26 Queen Trigger in Aruba back in 1989. In 1997, I caught a 58. 5 29 lb bull dolphin in St Thomas, USVI, on a plug tipped with a ballyhoo.

Sharks are a problem that need to be taken care of. It is becoming a problem that is far out of control and it’s about time they step up and figure out how to make a change!

I've been hit from Barracuda a few times in the Bahamas but I still eat it. Horse eye jacks are known to be poison as well but never heard of a snapper or grouper being poisoned!
