Here on the south coast of the UK we have suffered with Strong to Gale force Easterly weather for nearly a month. This weather is not good for fishing. Here I show you how I use my Garmin electronics to help me find fish and navigate the seabed. I anchor in a few locations, showing underwater footage and battle the wind and try to find some fish. The equipment I have fitted to the boat is a Garmin Echomap Ultra 122sv with a 56UHD transponder and Panoptix livescope LVS32. The conditions were not ideal for filming, but if you found the video helpful and interesting and would like to me show more. Please leave a message in the comments

Do you know what some of those wrecks are? Ie fishing boats or cargo boats gone down in a storm?
Theirs alot of wrecks at the bottom end of the isle of man due to massive currents and tides meeting plus Theirs a really small island about 1 mile square with a gap between the main land about 3 or 400 yards wide and some very nasty rocks right in the centre that get submerged at high tide and 2 currents smash together it's dangerous passing through even on a calm day but if you go to the far sides around the island Theirs lots of wrecks n reefs with some big fish, first time I ever fished their I caught 2 octopus - I didn't even know that was possible but I was 11 years old so not as educated at the time -

Hi Jon, Thank you for another informative and interesting video. Your absolute delight at even the smallest hint of wildlife is inspiring. I know what you mean about them Easterlies. Was booked on a wrecking trip out of Weymouth the other week that got cancelled at the last min, so ended up on Boscombe pier getting Blown about. Oh well never mind, as they say; -The worst days fishing is better than the best day at work, unless you're heaving you gut up over the side! - Have a good one man and keep the vids coming.

Hello again. John. Just think due to your sound, honest and easily explained advice how much time, effort, and money you have saved people over the years? From foraging with your family on the shore to owning your own boat it is great advice for people like myself. Also safety and entertainment is great. I am looking forward to getting my rods and reals out for a decent night tide and try somewhere new to fish around the North West. Also I'm amazed with the technology you have on your boat it is awesome. -

Really enjoyed this post John. Sorry the fishing sucked, but you taught a wonderful class. All the wind and swells are just like home here on the Oregon coast! The weather this time of year would piss off a priest. Your underwater footage is just fascinating to watch. Can you tell I grew up watching Jacques Cousteau? More of that footage in your posts would be fantastic! Thanks for a Sunday evening departure brother! I always look forward to your posts. Love home and fair winds and following seas.

Thanks John. Super informative vid. My boat mooring dries out 3 hours after high tide, so fixing the transducer permanently to the stern is a no no as it would get beaten up as she comes aground. Do you mind me asking what portable transducer pole you have found? The best I have come across to date seems to be the Minn Kota one. Not the cheapest but as per your Garmin Unit you get what you pay for! Thanks again.

That video had allsorts in it, one of the best youve ever done, i love that sort of education, your explanations are well thought through and put across, usually i would have to admit i havnt a clue what the hell anyone talking about technology is on about, i really enjoyed this video, thanks for the hassle you went through to put this one together, can see it wasnt as pleasant as usual, all the best

I always see you use a barrel/ flexible bucket for keeping fish alive/resting them. I use a large 36 inch long 18 inch wide box which takes up a lot of space. My question is I have an upright barrel 18 inch diameter, could you keep a 24 to 30 inch fish alive in it without causing it any damage for at most 10 mins to sort out gear/scales etc. Unsure if it would be trying to swim head up or head down?

Nice one as always thanks John. Unlikely I will ever own a boat but very interesting information. Your Garmin is a fine bit of Kit! Some nice size Mackerel still about - we were out shore fishing the Tamar on Monday evening - only a couple of small Macker and loads of tiny Wrasse. Has Jim done a cook up with Mackerel? Be interesting to see what he conjures up! Stay safe & well - Dave! ----

Japanese fishermen have found an easy way to avoid being broadsided by waves & wind by putting a simple mast with 2 horizontal masts in a vee shape with a rolling sail on each vee mast. When the sails are opened up to catch the wind they'll keep the boat pointed into the wind but if the waves are running in a different direction then you turn the mast to keep the boat pointed into the waves.

Just outstanding to you John truly you are a dedicated fisherman and I love seeing this aswell as I truly love fishing it's like a sickness. The information that you provide to your audience is top class and I hope that more young people would get into fishing. As it's such a life experience like no other. Thank you for time and dedication. Fair wind and calm seas.
