My son Brendan and I along with some friends fished a back lake for splake near Hawk Junction, Ontario in May 2016. The lake absolutely teemed with them! All told we landed well in excess of 40 fish and lost numerous others as well, it was great sport! Casting and trolling small spoons did most of the damage - these fish weren't fussy at all!
The venue was Air Dale Lodge close to Hawk Junction on Whitefish and Manitowik lakes. For a drive-to facility it had shockingly good fishing for a large variety of species: brook trout, lake trout, walleye, pike, smallmouth bass, and of course splake!

Joey: Splake or brookies + treble hooks + deep basket nets = extreme frustration. I either switch to single hooks or use my shallow basket, long handled creek net. Date: 2022-05-08
