It feels SO GOOD to be back on the ice. Bower Lake in the Turtle Mountains is home to some GIANT master angler Rainbows and Browns, while we didn't exact land one this time, we did come face to face with one. I highly recommend checking it out if you're looking for that true Manitoba Brute Rainbow. Marcel's

check kijiji or for sale ads in malls and craigslist for flotation suits. I got a one piece mustang for $100
The piece of mind is worth it especially if you ice fish often. I have gone through trapping in a canoe on icy lake and your survival time is minutes before you can't barely use your hands or have enough strength left to save yourself. I was out of the lake and got to the truck in minutes and it was so cold my suit was frozen and my hands barely could unlock the truck door. Be safe out there boys and girls. In a flotation suit there are guys rescued after being afloat in Northern Ocean waters after 13 hrs afloat and survived in a Mustang survival suit.

You have to be very careful of the angle you take the pictures a though. I caught a 28 1/2 inch pickerel and they wouldnt accept it. They said it was 26, but the tub I had the fish in was clear, so it looked like it was sitting free. In reality the lips touched one end of the bucket and the tail curled on the other. I had to take an overhead shot because of the space on the boat. Really sucks and I was pretty angry about it but Ill just have to catch a bigger one

Hey Jay, I live on pelican lake, which is 45 minutes from bower. If your ever bored, you should do a video on pelican lake. Very flat bottom lake. Hard to fish at times. Give the people who cant go far for fishing tip and pointers on catching big walleye and pike close to home on flat silt bottom lakes. I've had no luck at bower so far. Wondering what you were using for a set up?

2: 26 - I also thought wearing an inflatable PFD was a good idea on early ice, however after some research I have learned that: 1) when cold, the small CO2 cylinder may not fully inflate your PFD. 2) an inflated PFD is quite large when fully inflated, and may therefore hinder you escaping through the hole in the ice that you fell through

I've had pretty good luck with powerbait mice tails on a tiny jig for stocked trout. It seems like just holding them steady, high in the water column works well. I don't have a flasher so I can't say for sure but they seem to be finicky with aggressive jigging.

Guys, inflating life jackets have a warning where they can fail to inflate under 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Those are not an effective form of pdfs in cold conditions.

Love that lake, used to slay rainbows with nightcrawlers. Biggest I pulled outta there, 26 inches 7 pounds. The honey hole is further out though; )

Jay,
Show the fishing. Skip the monologue and personal interest trash. No one cares about anything other than yanking fish out of the ice.
