Thanks for the good information, Phil. One other item that I find helpful is a plastic tub for a stripping basket. It's a great way to keep your line from getting underfoot or tangled around items in the boat -- depth finder, net handle, fly boxes, outboard handle, other rods, etc, etc, etc-- particularly when the wind is blowing. I got mine for about six bucks at Target - it's roughly 15 inches deep and about 16 x 24-. Put an inch or so of water in it to keep the line from tangling. Works great, and you can decorate it with all the fishing stickers you've collected over the years!
