I've not fly fished for some 30+ years. But the best, long distance casting I ever did was when a friend and myself were at a fishery where we knew the owners.
It was late evening. The owner was getting ready to shut up shop, plus it was also starting to get dark. As my friend and I were getting ready to go, the owner came over and said he's got some extra work to do so we could stay on for another 45 mins or so.
Well, after some 30 minutes it was that dark you couldn't see your back cast if you wanted to. So all the casting was done with 100% feel alone. Knowing it was clear behind me as no one was about, I just kept looking forwards and never once looked back.
That evening taught me a heck of a lot about fly casting and I never looked back again (No pun intended.
As a bonus, I also caught a nice rainbow trout too. But I put him/her back as I was already at my limit.

I'm s self taught fly fisher and always kinda knew about the extra pauses. You can usually feel the line load. Still, thanks for the video. Still doubt I cast as far as I could with real training.

Best tip for a long cast? Stand with the wind behind you, or maybe blowing over your left shoulder on the left bank from 8 o- clock if you have the rod in your right hand, phew!
