You got it right - all anyone should use is -enough- to get where they want that bait. On trimming those tails - TRY cutting only the top half instead. You'll find by doing it that way, the minnow can't drive down to the bottom, and looks more like a Yo Yo going up a little and and a slow fall. Eyes HATE it! LOL Makes 'em want to KILL it! Sadly. a pike will seldom pass on this too- Oh well. nothing is perfect! Have a great ice season and stay safe.

Hay make the shot on a -shirt button- pattern. - 6 in. Above the hook then shot sinker. 6in. more - shot sinker. 6in. More shot sinker. Need to use at least three, with a slip or stationary float in a river or trolling - as long as ur using the bobber it will skip with it down stream. Best tip I have ever learned. ( Maybe)
