Excellent video and I agree with you 100% although I very seldom use bait with JR's, maybe I'll give it a try again. Also totally agree with you on size but I have had times where walleye were showing lots of interest but not committing and when I switched to a #9 they smashed it. I'm assuming at these times they were probably feeding on large baitfish and the #9 matched the hatch. I also usually crimp the barbs on my JR's because they can otherwise be very hard to get out when the fish gets the whole hook in its mouth. I lose a few fish this way but I release most of the fish I catch.

What i do tend to see tho with this particular bait is walleye or crappie but honestly that bait doesnt just catch those 2 species. If u are useing this bait with out a camera and just a flasher there is a high chance you are going to lose your bait. Pike love these and with 6lb test fishing for smaller game there is a high chance that line is not going to hold up to teeth cause your drag is not set for those cause your not fishing for those. Get a camera or buy a handfull of these epic baits and expect line breaks.

What rod are you using for the #5? Fishing for Perch and Walleye, I'm looking at the St. Croix Legend Black (24- or 30- Available) or a Mojo Ice rods in Medium Light (Recommended by the St. Croix guy. The St. Croix guy was selling the concept of having the spring bobber available. Not thinking you'd need that for this application, but I suppose I could use the same rod for other stuff as well. Any thought on a good rod?

That was interesting, I learned a couple cadences there. I use the crack and pause a lot to attract fish. Crack it 3-4 foot off the bottom, then let it drop right back down and pause for 10-15 seconds and repeat. I-ve done well on walleyes, Lakers, perch, speckled trout and crappies with them, they-re good lures once you have the confidence. More fun than spoons: )

I bought 2 sizes a size 7 and and a size 5 so i can fish for smaller game with the 5 and when a pike or a bass comes through i can quickly change it up with a larger bait to catch those bigger fish. Having a camera will open even more benefits then a flasher cause u will know the type of species thats looking at your bait.

What size hook do you recommend upsizing too when using the #5 for walleye?
I have always struggled when using raps thru the ice. I do great using spoons or rattle baits but just never have done well with jigging raps.
Gonna make a effort to refine my technique when using jigging raps this winter.

I've been ice fishing with them lures for at least 5 years now, and I have very good success with them, I get the larger perch with the green one, I've even got 2 King salmon threw the ice fishing the harbor in Racine, Wi. Great lures. Fish it like you said and have fun.

We have a snaggy bottom on our lake, and I'm thinking of removing the bottom treble and attaching it to the line loop on top.
Will I still get satisfactoy action? Do you have any other snag-free suggestions. Maybe removing the treble entirely?

Thanks Joel for the tips. I have always struggled with raps until i watched your video. Loved your videos on IDO too. One question, do you change out your trebbles with a long shank? Brand and size. Tnanks.

Been using jigging raps for many years catching perch on Lake Simcoe and they are awesome. Usually replace the treble with something stronger then I bait it with a red maggot - the perch love it.
