here's something I did to learn how to fly cast, this tip may sound dumb but as a kid it taught me
rhythm and how to cast. What I did was take 25'-30' of knittng wool, run it through just the tip of your fly rod, then sit in your family room, rec-room hallway or where ever, and cast the wool with just the tip of the rod. You will almost instantly feel the load of the wool and slow down and develope the cast, you can learn roll casting also doing this. Throwing fly's is not hard but most beginners just need to slow down and get the feel of the rod loading so this tip I'm giving you guys will let you get a feel for it easy peazy, when you can lay out 20' of wool across the floor nice and straight you'll develope the tempo, feel and get a better understanding of fishing with a fly rod.

Picked up a fly rod last year during the rona and actually dedicated my hole summer to it since I wasnt working. Love it never spin cast again. Have three 5wts a 3 wt and an 8wt now. Fishing the Alberta Rockies for trout great views some exercise. 90% of their feeding is under water for sure. Two months of the year top water is king! You ever want to visit Alberta and need a tour guide hit me up I will take some time off from the rig lol

Jay you need to learn/train how to strip set vs your trout set youll increase your hookups, I guarantee it. Gunnar Brammer has a great video about it.
Fly rods arent meant to have backbone to drive the hook into a mouth like conventional rods. However the line doesnt stretch much so youll drive the hook in much better with a strip set.
Anyways keep crushing it love the videos and have fun as always!

Love the fly fishing content, Jay! Fly fishing is not just for trout! A tip for anyone stripping, put the rod tip in the water for a tighter connection. Hovering the rod tip above the water you may not feel the hit to set the hook. Especially if youre just starting out.

I've only tried fly fishing once, 7 years ago for Atlantic salmon in northern New Brunswick. from a big cedar strip canoe. It's definitely a learning curve, but quite enjoyable, other than when you hook the anchor line off the bow of the boat, or your guide's hat. LOL

I don't know how you do it, the knowledge on all topics fishing, and the ability you have to deliver it in a manner i can learn from, much appreciated. Looking forward to trying my fly rod out next week on falcon lake for the first time! Timely video, thanks!

I like the feel of the reel enjoyable. fishing recommend in my hand and the weight is just right for my rod. The drag settings took some time to set correctly but work well. Great looking reel!

well done video on fly fishing, dumbed it down enough to make anyone confident enough to try it. very rewarding to catch fish on a fly rod but do not try in wind, not fun.
