Training for My First Backback Hunt WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN INTO?

It's time to start training for my first backpack hunt ever, and we are going to the mountains of New Zealand. I'll be working out with weights and the great outdoors by hiking with weighted packs. I'm also breaking in new gear from ultra light Kuiu and danner boots to make sure that it's all the gear is tested, comfortable and ready to go when we hit the mountains. This should be interesting!

Been on a few backpacking trips and once you're on it you learn what you need and what you don't. Make sure you try to cut all the weight you can. No deodorant, smaller sleeping bag (sleep with your jacket, swap metal gear for plastic gear, etc. All the little things add up. Less weight, less pain. less pain, more fun. Good luck

There's this company EXO, if you go to their website you can download a workout plan pdf. Part of the workout includes using your backpack with some weight. It might be good to check it. Trekking poles, once you start using them, you'll love them, specially on complicated terrain.

Hey lakeforkguy I remember you saying something about a editing job that you were wanting people to submit I guess resumes and I can't find your email to send it to. If you can please drop me a line and let me know what your email is

Not sure when your trip is, but have you thought about going up to visit Outlaw and do some hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park (after the snow comes off a bit more? Should give you a real feel for hiking in altitude.

Hey LFG! I know you posted this video a few days ago, but have you thought about trying out an elevation training mask? Never used one myself, but it might be worth checking out and using when you're training with your pack.

A compression dry sack (e. g. Sea to Summit) might be worth looking into. It saved me a bunch of pack space on my last few hunts in Wyoming and Alaska, with all the extra layers I was carrying around.

I've been backpacking almost 20 yrs in the mountains in Washington State 3000-9000 ft. Need best boots that r broke in, trek poles r a must, get in shape, first aid kit a must.

All you have to do is, extend your weekly mileage every week. Clean up your nutricein and add miles every week, with a goal of 40 mile weeks. And you'll be good to go.

Hey LFG have you heard of keto diet. Apparently it can help reduce your brain tumor with just eating a strict diet. You should look into it maybe it can help you!

So happy for you LFG! New Zealand is going to be a beautiful trip.
Don't forget to toss in a awkward slung package sender to the workout while hiking.
