HUGE Hybrid Bass Blowing Up on Topwater

I was bass fishing on a fall day in Texas when a school of hybrid striped bass started schooling on big shad at the water surface. I used a River2Sea Rover topwater lure to make long casts and walk the bait side to side. It has a big profile and loud rattles to attaches the fish in open water situations like this. If you are new to topwater fishing, watch my rod tip to see how to make the lure walk side to side. The hybrids were huge! These are the biggest hybrid bass I have ever caught. They were blowing up on my topwater bait so hard that it darn near scary. After landing a few fish, my fishing hooks were destroyed and I had to retire that lure for the day. Catching those hybrid bass on topwater was short lived but it was a lot of fun. Except when one decided to put a treble hook in my leg. People don't usually keep these cause they claim the bloodline makes the fish taste too strong. Personally i love wipers. You can tell by the full body and muscles of these fish that its good eating. These fish always seem so clean too especially cause they love running water. The environment a fish prefers usually can predict what the fish will taste like that's why i NEVER eat largemouth. Largemouth tend to live in muddy standing water and i always assumed they would taste like pond. Sure enough they did. Ill stick to wipers, whites, walleye, and the occasional bluegill/panfish.

There mean! I had one last year come up on a heddon spook and missed it but I kept it going and he came back hit again it was the best topwater bite I've ever had, it weighed close to 6lb then caught my PB this year on a big zoom soft swimbait and he beat me up bad lol my buddy went down and got him after he pulled drag thrashing, it was 10lb I could only imagine people that's hooked them 25 and 30lb that's just insane on a regular bass setup.

fished for schooling hybrids one day and had to buy replacement trebbles for all my rat l traps next day. And got a treble past the barb that went into the webbing between my forefinger and thumb. Worth it!

I have been fishing barbless for years. It's easier to release the fish and get back to fishing the boil and it's much easier to take the hook out of yourself or your partner.

Nice vid. I go stripper fishing a lot. Get yourself a small pair of pistol lip grips and you will never get stuck again. These fish are mean I think they try and do it

Most of the time if you let the bait sit for a second and let the ripples go away you will get a strike then because it's imitating a dead/injured shad!

Love the video. I'm gonna try some topwater for hybrids this summer. I been burning them up on jigs here lately. They are a blast to catch, for sure!

Man I wish the lakes up here in Indiana were filled like that. No wonder all the FishTubers are in the South. Enjoy it LFG. Envious up here.
