Thank you and hope you enjoy. The Almaco jack is no BS, as good as the Mahi Mahi if not better. They are extremely plentiful and this wont be the last catch clean cook you guys see with these fish either. Remember, no such thing as trash fish, just trash cooks! I remember being in Tampa Bay in the meeting place of three individual storms and hearing the Coast Guard flipping out on the radio with a small craft advisory and telling all smaller craft to get to shore as soon as humanly possible. I nailed the throttle on my four 225 Hondas and we were back in shore in around 12 minutes from 4 miles out of John's Pass. There were six of us on my 25' Bayliner that day, and I seriously can't tell you how much I miss those good old days. I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when I was 14, moved back to Brandon when I was 16, moved back to Pittsburgh when I was 18, and have been here ever since. I can't tell you what I'd do to move my wife and kids back to Florida (where my parents and sisters all live, but her parents live here and she couldn't leave her parents, even though I left mine when I was 14, and again at 18 because I was diagnosed with terminal cancer three days after my 16th birthday and I am now 20 years in remission. God has blessed me, but I would also LOVE to move back to Florida with my wife and sons.

i think its great that you expose myths on trash fish because it opens a world of fishing that can potentially help targeted species. good to know about all the fish you can eat with just a little knowledge. you are a stand up cook man by the way. do Master chef one season please. best of luck to you and Beautiful Brook.

Hi Guys like your show from NZ.
I think a good taste test would not use so much herbs and spices.
For the last 40 years I cook in butter and put some self raising flour with salt and cajun into a bag, mix and put the fish in to lightly coat the fillets.
Cook till just right then eat, Cheers Peter

Seriously though bro, I would donate BOTH of my testicles to research if I could put my family in a house like that in Florida. My biggest downfall in life is that I make over 100k a year, but I'm still stuck in Pittsburgh, PA. I grew up in Brandon, FL, and I miss it so much every single day.

Have never caught an Almaco, but on those really tough fishing days when all you're catching is Ladyfish and Remoras, I'm always happy to catch a Blue Runner (another type of Jack, or two. They're also a fish that is often thrown back but is actually not bad eating.

Brook say something interesting about rainbow runner and they are good why not a catch and cook for give your opinion in a episode because I go on a couple fishing fishing boat in Florida and all the skipper say its nasty etc and never keep it

Aloha Viktor, Why would you suggest in your title that Dolphin (Mahimahi, and Almaco Jack (Kampachi) are trash fish. I don't know of anyplace that considers either fish trash. Almaco Jack are farmed here, great eating as you point out.

Congrats on the home purchase now youll have less time on your hands but hey ever try scaling the ALmaco Jax and cooking whole? Then forking the meat and making fish cakes?
reply

Only people who call almaco jacks trash fish are the people who never had them before. Too many people want the glory 5 or so fish they've seen at restaurants or on tv.
