I think putting them in the clear plastic boxes also adds to the heat and moisture effecting the lures. I'm in Mississippi and I noticed this happening a couple of years ago to my jerk baits. Taking them from the boat and putting them in the garage after getting off the lake seemed to stop the problem. so far. I think the clear boxes were keeping the moisture in and acting like a magnification lens generating lots of heat and causing the lure to swell. I won't stop using the clear boxes because they are the best way to organize your baits. maybe it's just a conspiracy by the bait makers to get us to buy more baits. NOT! :-). Neat idea of signing the bad lures and giving them out, good one Chad Rhodes. I'd like to have one.

wow and double wow. we got alot of baits and im gonna be checkin them. hmm. thanks for the info bro! And u stay droppin lots of info and we be eatin it up lol Come chek us out when u got free time from fishin for monsters and doin what u do sir if u could. i got something goin but we little time rits now but one piece at a time. keyword is time and hardwork. real fishing. real life. preciate ya eyes if u read this and double thanx for givin us ya time! keep on take care and god bless

The problem is heat. If your leaving your lures in your boat even if it's stored in a garage. There is higher chance of this happening. To reduce the chance of this happening I store my gear in my house. I don't have a garage to store my boat so I have to use a tarp. That tarp creates a lot of heat under it when the sun shines on it. In fact it gets real steamy under that tarp. If I left my lures boxes in the boat them lures would go through hell in that heat.

I have never had any of my lures swell. But, I'm up here in Ny year round. I bring my lures inside afterwards. They don't sit in the vehicle or a boat. If you set your lures down in a sunny day and they still have water on them. That water can act as a lens. Not sure how much of an effect that might make with your really hot days in Florida. But it may not be helpful if you leave it out in the sunlight for a few hours.

I cut my teeth on fishing belle glade and Taylor Creek Area, my grandparents spents years and years and years on Lake Okeechobee. Both used to swear by the yellow and black Devils horse for topwater, but I never see a pro or even an amatuer/semi pro use a devils horse. is there any particular reason why?

Also if the Bait if the bills are one piece molded over time the Plastic Gets Brittle and if you look Closely they Will Have Little Spider Cracks and when you Catch a Fish Ether the Line Eye will Just Pull Out Of The Bill Will Just Brake off i Have Lost a Few Good One Like That

It happens when u have a bait in a cold temperature that is exposed to very hot air(ex: from your truck to your boat in the summer. Then in the bait condensation or water drops form in the bait and turn into a gas there for swelling the bait

I would say that the protective coating is bad and they got water in them. I know Rapalas are wood and that could be a reason. Just my theory. You should always clean and dry your gear after a trip, especially if its salt water.

this happened to me and it was on brand new lures thrown in the box for later use not lures that were older. I'm guessing it's a flaw in that specific lure covered up by the paint. So basically it's take a chance on lures.
