If you could source the failed caps, you could do either
1)LCR meauseents accoss the frequency range compared to the good black. You may have high ESR.
2) put the busted cap and old X2 in one of the new PCB, see if anything happens.
Doesn't sound like you can now though
All in all though, the US power grid can be horribly noisy. Likely a component that is barely making spec or slightly faulty combined with poor supply side input. Even getting an old brown bulk cap and X2 PCB as a new product is unlikely to fail. There would be hundreds to thousands of monitors with this config in the wild.

those aren't thermal pads, they are used as stands to avoid the boards touching the lcd metal plate and as anti vibrations, as for the caps where did you search for a replacement and where unable to get one of the most common mains cap used, sure they might not come in the same size cause it all depends on who makes them, as for the fire hazard I don't believe there is one, as soon as the cap pops it should overload the fuse and blow it up insulating it from the mains. I would put a new cap and replace the fuse (after checking the rectifier bridge) and plug it in and use it.

Just wanted to add, I purchased one of these in May 2021 and have been using it all day, daily ever since without a problem. Gives me hope it's just a bad batch but I felt like crap seeing this video and having the monitor so I hope the results of leaving it in the office and monitoring it over time are consistent with my experience. Definite RIP to anyone who did get one for the holidays and it went up in smoke, hope you can easily get a replacement.

I know it is a different monitor, but I bought an Acer Xg270hu monitor in November 2020. It is still sitting in its box because I couldn't build my gaming PC due to the CPU and GPU shortage. Has my monitor had any safety or other issues where I should consider getting a different monitor? I intend to use the monitor for gaming on stock settings. Not overclock or any super crazy settings. Thanks in advance.

Gamers Nexus... where Steve gets disappointed when things explode and viewers get disappointed when things don't! :P
How on EARTH could the brown cap version ever get through QC? Don't they test them before shipping them? One viewer stated that it started smoking within seconds of being powered on, so if they're tested at Acer that has to be the shortest test duration on the planet... :-/

Take a closeup picture of the capacitor. Who is the manufacture and what is date code. Bad capacitors will usually clump together with the same date code. Also I have seen the heat shrink label placed in the wrong position. When the foil winding is removed from the can, the negative plate foil will be on the outside and the inner foil will be positive lead terminal.

This and the fiasco with the ASUS motherboard fires mean we probably now have enough parts to build the ultimate Fire Hazard PC .
Get one of those exploding Gigabyte PSUs, that one NZXT case, one of those Asus boards that have been having a fire issue, maybe a defective video card plus this monitor then it's a race to see which part explodes first. :D

From my limited knowledge, this just looks to be a malfunctioning Capacitor. It's pretty hard to catch those even if you QC properly as the fault would only occur with use. Not that I'm saying Acer QCs properly, me and many others have bought Monitors with an intended number of dead pixels which Acer would refuse to take back

Been looking for reviews of this monitor since before I bought for myself as an early bday present in like may and this just starts randomly playing in the background while I'm working. The title scared the s t out of me, but then they said if you've had it for a while you should be safe and my heart rate slowed down.

It's a feature. Gamer Vape.
There's little cartridges you can swap out for Dorrito and Mtn-Dew flavor.
They can be programmed to release the smoke in certain circumstances, like Fragging or Headshotting someone. There's also tiny little LEDs on the top of the monitor that change the color of the smoke.
