The Worst Pre-Built We've Ever Reviewed: Alienware R13 5000 Gaming PC Benchmarks

The Alienware R13 is easily the worst pre-built gaming PC we've ever reviewed. Dell manages to downclock an i9 to equal an i7 performance instead, yet charges 5000 for the PC. Unfortunately, even spending 5K does not get a good pre-built gaming PC. You'd think it'd get you the best pre-built PC of 2022, but it doesn't even get you the best pre-built gaming PC of 2015. This thing is built to decades-old standards and manages to throttle just about every component in the system through either power or thermals, and the noise produced is that of a mid-2000s Gateway. Damon: I ordered an R13 a little over a month ago. It's not as well specced as the one reviewed here. So I am hoping the thermals are a bit better. But looks like a possible return is incoming. I was hoping to see some mention on how long it took to receive the product. As I mentioned before it was a month ago when I placed my order and Dell are claiming it's still about 3 weeks out from being delivered.
Otherwise a pretty damning review. If I get mine and it sucks like this I will def be trying to make a return and go with someone else.

Man, I really hope you manage to get that interview with Dell. I would imagine if you get in contact with the right people it would be doable. Once you get past their end user style people, and talk to their real internal teams that handle like business relations, they are usually overly willing to bend over backwards to make things work.
I used to work at a large company as a systems administrator for over a decade and we did a lot of business with Dell. I worked with them directly.
I can recall a few incidents over the years that required them to really have to go out of their way to make things right with me/the company. I actually had to get them to fire our main sales rep at one point, since she did such a poor job. Not something I am proud of, but believe me she had plenty of chances, and was just entirely incapable of doing her job.
In addition to that, they actually did fly me out there once (all expenses paid), to tour the round rock campus, meet with execs (actually met Michael). They also showed me upcoming products for 5-10 years out (all under NDA ofc), and this included Intel as well who had a strong presence there... They were practically joined at the hip at the time.
Anyway, this situation is different because it is a public facing issue, and thus will require more. I still think if you get in contact with the right internal teams it can definitely happen though. I would try to avoid talking to them in this perceived manner that they are beyond saving though, as it makes it seem like you would just use this to damage their reputation further. They have to believe there is a benefit to them to listen to you, and work with you on your concerns. I'm not saying your complaints/anger aren't justified, but they aren't going to meet with you if they think you are just going to make it even worse for them and not allow them an opportunity to improve.
Anyways... Just my thoughts/experience. Would love to see this happen.

i bought the r12 for 3000. The alienware comand center is inaccessable and actually stopped working afew days after i set it up. so no access to fan speed, or over clocking anything. one good thing though it doesnt over heat when i open a window and stick a fan in it and put the cooling fins on the side facing the fan in the middle of winter... A 3000. doorstop thanks dell your the best....

I can share this site's frustration. Last year, I bought an Alienware R9 only to find that within the space of 3 months, it became unusable (even with over 32 GB of RAM. After numerous trips to tech shop, I gave up and replaced it with a Lenovo - which has not given me any problems and has the benefit of standard components. I will never buy another Alienware desktop - it is not worth it.

If it's the same speed as the 11900KS stock at 1 min. But averages to about the same as 11700KS stock at 55 minutes... Then it really is slightly slower. Since it started with a head start and then ends the race at the same time....
Also. Would love to see the follow up interview. Those are long but educational. For everyone. Checking my email (for updates lol)

wow this is almost notebook level of throttling.
we have alienware X15s at work (with 3080s) and i once tried to benchmark them against my desktop pc which also has a 3080.
and yeah the x15s 3080 ended up around 30% slower than my desktop 3080. not a terrible machine, but you def pay for components that will never use their full potential

I think they were getting to the thickness of the radiator as being the larger point. Which has some merit. Most AIOs I have picked up were all the 20 25mm thick variety. And I can confirm that an appropriately thick radiator CAN cool quite well. I use a 140x40mm to cool a 2080S FTW3. It is surprisingly effective.

Dell you're on a massive no fly list right now because of junk like this, everyone watching should take notice of ANY Dell product and tell their friends and family to avoid because, you're incompetent and lazy. Test failed, I'd say try again, but really you should just try .

Man, back in the days when you got a t h i c c Alienware Laptop that was actually good. I still have a second gen here somewhere. Mostly used as a melee weapon nowadays, but still. It was amazing back in the day.

Such a beautiful waste of money. I'm so sorry for people who's buying Dell. Gaming Rigs or Workstations. 10900k with 80mm tower cooler - throttling in 13 seconds in Blender. :D
They're just producing trash.
