HW News - Dying Samsung SSD Fix, Intel Mega CPUs, RTX 4070 Rumors
video description
I remember in like 2014 I bought the flagship 980ti for 400 new during it's generation shortly before Pascal released. I mean entry level cards where 150- 200 and a 970 with a good cooler went for 330. I genuinely thought that was expensive, but I couldn't get two 570's to cross fire at launch, seen the 980ti for slightly less than dual 570's and grabbed it.
That card more or less hanged with every 400 card that released all the way up until the 3060ti dropped, in other words it took 7 years for a 400 card to be a meaningful upgrade over my previous 400 card. I was happy to get my 3060ti, my youngest brother was super excited to get my old 980ti for free .... I have a feeling I'll be holding on to this 3060ti for a LONG time at this price trend.

The 990 Pro issue initial reporting was me writing about it on Neowin!
The firmware update, whilst nice, is totally bare minimum from Samsung, no change notes, just some comments on the Samsung forum saying new FW out, and the degraded health won't be reversed either so if it's dropped then you will have to RMA or refund.
Shame really, Samsung SSDs should inspire confidence, not any more. The 990 Pro might be the fastest, but it's not the fastest by a whole lot. There are a large number of competing drives that are in the same ball park, and in day to day use and gaming nobody will be able to tell the difference between any of them. So go with what has more recently been proven to be reliable with no such issues.

Test DaVinci Resolve (perhaps also Puget Bench or something custom like a video you would on GN). Otherwise perhaps you can get into Intels OpenVINO inference? But that's likely really difficult to setup if you aren't familiar with it. I would be interested in how fast CPU inference is for a base and large CLIP model on small training pairs.

I use 3DSMAX and AutoCAD. I would suggest using Specviewperf for doing a whole suite of benchmarks, from 3D modeling software, to medical, fluid dynamics, and more. It's free, it's repeatable, and you can set it and forget it , which is good cause it takes a while if you are running all tests.
Have a great day! o7

I had a problem with the samsung 980 1TB aswell, the PC would freeze and BSOD I've seen other posts of peoples problems who had a x570 chipset too , I returned the Drive and got my money back. I'm pretty disapointed from Samsung now, not going back to them probably.

Hey everyone! Lots of cool stuff coming up. We just had a brief publishing break for about a week to catch-up on some work and clean up the studio. We have a pre-built review coming up this week that's... well, let's just say the review summarizes the PC as yikes!

Hey Steve. For Production testing, could you test unreal engine source build compile times for the latest release branch? Or time to compile shaders when opening a default project with a new engine? Just ideas for basic game dev testing. Thanks Steve.

please test the build time of UE5's entire source code
their build pipeline is still kind of trash and not always can put a full load to the cpu, so it would be useful to know how new cpu's will perform in such conditions

Off topic but have you guys ever thought about updating the CPU bottleneck video from 2020? Last time you made one it was with 2000 series GPUs, would like to see how older Intel/AMD CPUs bottleneck 3000/4000 series cards

Would love to see yall make some sort of adobe substance 3d painter benchmarks, i use that program daily. also loading unity packages in unity engine would be interesting to see how other hardware performs with those apps.

I just got a Samsung SSD 2Gb 980 pro for my Razer, for Christmas.
I was a bit scared, but I checked it with the Samsung Magician and it was not one of the failing drives.
Thank God.
