if you think you like PNY, then i think it's a fine choice. their Coolers for recent Cards are already doing pretty good (granted nothing really special for PCB, but it's enough) despite being a very lowkey Brand in NA/EU. kind've a 'sleeper Brand' already, one could say.
and if you do work with someone, PNY or not, having two 'tiers' of GPU i think will help a lot with helping keep it in the black. you can have the XOC Card and a like, similar aesthetic theme but pretty good Card to get more units moving.
much like how EVGA Motherboards ended up having the XOC Board, and Enthusiast Board same deal. you have the pinnacle thing, and one that's a bit more of a balance on Price:features to fill that i want something that's pretty good, but not quite extreme Price.
it's that step down one that i'm most interested in tbh, as i don't do XOC but i do both like the aesthetic style and i do like Products that are more than the bare minimum. would love to see a consistent GPU Model that mixes all of the best features for daily use without going too overboard. everyone else is so inconsistent on doing that and/or charges so much that it just becomes an epeen tool rather than something that People appreciate.
would love to see a consistent enthusiast model that doesn't skimp on VRM, has a PCB layout that can mix being somewhat compact with looking cool and not being too thermal dense, crams as many Heatpipes as it can, always goes for the Vapor Chamber, has the passthrough zone without totally covering it up and blocking it, maybe even does the split design thing like the Nvidia 'Founder' so half the Card is exhausting out the Slot - or anything else that could fit the idea of making something that makes few compromises without going too far off the deep end on hardly any return.
bonus points if it's not only the Flagship, too. i think there's room in the middle of the stack as well. and even if not the extra SKU on the market maybe encourages everyone else to be less bare minimum with theirs.
which while we're there anyways, 1080Ti KPE is the coolest GPU, period, ever. so cool looking. shame i couldn't find one of those PCB blanks, love it.

Pny is a large staple in the enterprise market , primary supplier of workstation cards. I have used some of their consumer grade/gaming gpus as well. Paid attention to their stuff a lot as well for more than a decade. They have always seemed to have a bit of a sapphire pulse mentality about things. Where is the card is not built to atleast a threshold standard they will not put their name on it. While they often do not make the craziest enthusiast overcloking cards they do make fairly nice cards that mostly seem to last. From my perspective PNY seems like a logical fit as you both can offer each other something and they can gain mindshare in the smaller albeit still lucrative enthusiast / consumer market than they have had in a few regions. Long as a quality product is put out and it has good support / warranty with minimal hassle (relative to what a warranty is) I think it will be a success. Might take a few rounds to get everyone back on the bandwagon and may have some of that... Well I want to see someone else jump first mentality but if the component is quality with good support if there is any hesitation it should be gone in 1-2 generations. If PNY understands that and is willing to work through it all then more the merrier. Would love to see the return of more XOC products in general. XOC is quite a fun hobby have enjoyed seeing the changes in it overtime largely for the better.

I had good but bad experience with PNY. It didn't seem like a bad card. But the cooler version of my 2070 Super wasn't on the official support side. So I would have had to write them directly. The cooler I had was a bit loud, the backplate didn't have thermal pads to use it somewhat. And they made the cooler so, that you had to remove the cooler to remove the backplate, because they put the screws into the side of the cooler instead of the backplate. On the other hand I heard somewhat good about them from other people, so maybe this was a one time thing. But I really would like if the things I talked about would change
I had the PNY GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XLR8 Gaming OC Triple Fan
Edit: I think if PNY would get as good as Sapphire it would be great. Because that is a real hole in my eyes at the moment. Not having as trustworthy Nvidia cooler as AMD cooler. At least in my eyes. I think now two AMD cooler companies also use easy to remove fans (Sapphire and XFX) and I am not aware of any company on Nvidia cards doing that much

PNY is one of those companies that I would gloss over in favor of other brands. I do own a GTX 560ti from them that I got years ago when given an old gaming PC to part out though. As for working with them, I think it is a good idea. I have never seen anything wrong with their cards, and having a big name attached to them could really boost their sales.
EVGA was amazing for so many reasons, and having Kingpin was icing on the cake. Just like an athlete's name on shoes, people will purchase just for the name. If you see Kingpin's name at the top of the benchmarking list using PNY cards, it is going to have a sales impact. Which surprises me that MSI was not interested for just that reason alone.
While I won't blindly follow a name around, I will be looking where the best performance is. If that performance is PNY, I would gladly make the purchase for my next card to replace my 3080ti, which of course is an EVGA.

I frankly never owned a specific Kingpin product yet but benefited from their R&D on other EVGA products I did purchase! I would definitely be interested in a water-cooled Kinpin in the future based on the current questionable state of other brands quality control issues. Ever since an AIO model came out from EVGA, that was the only version I bought for myself or to anyone I was building for if they were willing to pay the extra money, (EVGA air cooled otherwise.) I used PNY on a few systems in the distant past, I see no issues there, but no current track record frankly. Ever since EVGA stopped GPU's I frankly was in distress since most others had questionable reliability and quality control as of late. I stay away from MSI, ZOTAC and any other off-Chinese brands; Gigabyte seems OK, (So far) and ASUS for motherboards only when I want to pay way more for a tiny bit more performance which is sadly what I still do, LOL!

I wish evga didn't go to shit their last 2 years before closing the doors. Been buying their gpus exclusively since 2013. In 2022 I finally did my first nearly all evga build. X570 dark, which ever of the massively overkill psu's I bought, don't remember, and my evga 3090kingpin I bought on release day. I've had more problems with the x570dark and the kingpin 3090 than any other piece of computer hardware going all the way back to windows 98se. Had to rma the 3090 2 times for failed coolers. The x570 has had intermittent chipset errors since I bought it and now the post code leds don't even fully function anymore. I'm more or less just running it until it dies.

The KINGPIN brand has a lot of value and goodwill associated with it even if EVGA are no longer around because EVGA was the go to brand for many a folk and they (hehe - EVGA) had KINGPIN slapped all over their best products. If PNY do decide to entangle with KINGPIN that'll be really good because PNY can compete with the likes of Strix and Aorus Master etc line of products which they currently do not, doing so would also give more options to consumers wanting to buy a top of the line GPU. Honestly, I think PNY would sell a lot more cards full stop (or period as you'd say in NA) if they had KINGPIN onboard.

I didn't pause to leave my comment, however I can not wait to see a 4090 kingpin. I agree that the opinion of PNY seems very neutral. I don't believe they've made many waves in the industry, they seem to just do their job. This partnership will increase their market share and bring back a brand we all know and love........ K I N G P I N. Also, love how much you guys genuinely enjoy being around each other. Most of that video just felt like being a fly on the wall for your conversations. I know there's a good bit of water separating you guys, but we need more GN x Kingpin for sure.

I think PNY is a good choice. I think Asus and Gigabyte Aorus are the top of the market MSI while nice in the past just has such a dated feel in design right now. I'm not crazy about gpu aio's but I don't care how thick the card has to be, it would be so dope to have a shroud that gives the ability to insert regular 120mm fans on it even more props if it came with some sort of soft fan ducts so it suck right from the bottom of the case on a lot of these matx/itx cases. Maybe that is too much of a niche case to ask for but I thought if anyone could make it happen it would be you.
reply

I can only hope PNY's reputation increases through the hardware and support improving from this partnership. Increase the entire brand from the top down. If PNY can somewhat take the spot of EVGA in the market, they'd have a strong place. But if this is just a one off or the improvements are only found on these elite cards, it won't make me look at PNY in the future. Because I'm buying midrange cards, not these cards costing 4 figs.
EVGA did a great job from top to bottom on their lineup. And the support was great regardless of what you owned.

I would value kingpin card over the brand name a lot, it makes me assume it's made the kingpin way. There is something to be said about price sealing, but with brands like ASUS and MSI top models already being ungodly expensive while not being that special... I think there is space on the top. PNY does not ring any negative bells, mostly staying under my radar - in general they sell professional cards here (EU) and some mid-tier gaming cards. So currently nothing I would be interested in usually., a top of the stack card might change that.
reply

I don't know PNY's customer support / warranty reputation. However, everyone knew EVGA's. If PNY doesn't already have amazing CS, it would be awesome if KP could get them to go there. I know that I, and some folks I know, are kind of at a loss for who to trust these days. EVGA wasn't perfect, don't get me wrong, but if they were a Steam game, they certainly would be mostly positive. We need the next company that we can generally trust will take care of us, instead of fearing that we're going to get screwed ala Asus.

Personal opinion on PNY, because I hear no real talk about them, they are a bit of an 'unknown' to me. Which gives a feeling of scepticism towards them. So get lumped in with brands like Palit, which I don't rate with high regards.
But if they are working with people like Kingpin. They does start to give them some validity to their products and means I will start to consider them more in the future.
Excited to see what this collab produces, as will be great to see a great competitor in the upper end of the GPU space.

reply

I think if PNY actually wants to enter the xoc space they can do it in a huge way. They've dealt with the high-end barking for a long time and I know that customers will buy expensive products. With a lot of other OES highend GPIs already push thier price envelope, where PNY has a something like a 4090 is barely in the middle.
As long as they are willing to bring in the creative people needed for custom products, and listens to them.

reply

EVERY single, and I mean this bluntly, every single PNY product I have ever owned has failed withing a year of purchase. SSD's, and Video cards. This is a brand I actively avoide. It is worse than the worse for reliability and longevity. And the RMA process was, simply put, atrociously sketchy. The products RMA'd were new, replaced with broken used garbage. I will NEVER use a PNY product again. USER BEWARE. You've been warned.
reply

Yeah, IMO overclocking is dead because everything has essentially been factory overclocked for a good 5 years now... There just isn't really any headroom left and the few extra percent you might achieve really aren't worth the stability issues for the vast majority of people. It's not like the good old days where you could get 20-50% extra performance for free by changing two settings in the BIOS.
reply

my first flash drive was a 1gb pny attache that still works to this day. i've had great success with their flash drives. i have never owned any of their gpu's or ssd's and see mixed reviews of them online. if they end up being a reliable company maybe using some of the tips they get from kingpin to improve their entire product stack i will give them a shot in the future.
reply

I used to read the extreme overclocking forum back in the early 2000s and kingpin was one of THE DUDEs in extreme overclocking even from the beginning. It's so cool to see Kingpin and Steve get along like buds, its this merging of old and new and its awesome.
Also, really hoping PNY goes 100% to support kingpin, we need a new EVGA class producer and ASUS shouldn't be it.

reply

Never owned PNY but it's definitely always seemed like an option lol. WRT a Kingpin version, when they were still going I couldn't justify it but I'll consider it for my next build this go around if something is available. FWIW I usually prefer air cooling so a robust air cooler design would be great (totally get that's not really ideal potential wise though).
reply

I didn't pause the video so my opinion might just be unconsciously stolen from Steve, but yeah I've never really sought out PNY products because I just don't have experience with them, post EVGA I've just stuck with my main 3 (Asus, MSI, Gigabyte). But if PNY takes up Kingpin and lets him run his show I'll consider them, shows me that they are serious at least.
