Ah I actually can chip in here, as I've been dealing with this very problem recently and have found a fix (for now, not sure if it'll hold long term, although I hope so!)
First things my specs are:
14900K
Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master Wifi DDR5 mobo
GeForce RTX 4090
Corsair DDR5 6000 Mhz CL30
Corsair HX 1000w PSU
One thing to point out would be that among the Korean report of returns is that all the returned CPUs were from a period of 1-3 months old. I started having issued with my current 14900K after 3.5 months. I recently downloaded Horizon Zero Dawn from a Steam sale and tried to boot it, it got to the Sony Entertainment Presents screen then crashed. Nothing out of the ordinary, I thought, then booted it again. This time it froze the screen and my entire PC crashed. I tried reinstalling it, but the same issues persisted.
Then I decided to try Cyberpunk 2077 PL. This game ran perfectly fine when I first got my CPU but now as soon as I got to the shaders loading it froze and then crashed my PC. The exact same thing happened with Lies of P and Hogwarts Legacy when I tried those after.
Given it was usually crashing on boot up or when loading shaders, I assumed it was my 4090 or graphics drivers at fault. I ran DDU and reinstalled my drivers but no change. It was during this point that I stumbled upon the 13th and 14th Gen Intel Chips Instability report on Reddit. In the comments there someone who had these exact same issues, almost to the letter, including time frame and games tried, recommended setting 125W on the turbo and undervolting by -0.075v using Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility. I put the values in and all those games booted without issues and have been running fine since. However when shutting down my PC even now I still get a error box pop up saying Explorer fail memory exception or something like that as the screen is on the Shutting down message, which is slightly concerning.
I should add that this is my 2nd 14900K as well. The first one I bought didn't even last a week before I was getting constant blue screens and crashes with memory errors which leads me to believe that the memory controller on these chips is faulty or not up to spec. It seems the most common fault period seems to be after 1 - 3 months of constant use and it all seems tied into the memory controller.

I had an issue with my 13900k and then upgraded to the 14900k and still have issues. If you do some googling, you can find that some people believe it is due to a windows update, some believe it is an issue with the intel turbo boost feature witch I've had experience with and definitely seems linked to the problem along with voltage maybe. The crashes are to inconsistent and I don't have the time, experience or enough hardware for testing to know more. I even saw one thread somewhere where a guy was claiming it was core failure issues on theses cpus and that you could check event viewer in windows after crashes and find a code in there that pointed to that but I don't know the accuracy of it. Would love to see you make a video on this if you can find some more information or do some testing. Hopefully this helps in some way. Also one of the issues with turbo boost is it causes cinebench r23 multi core test to crash. I also believe baulders gate 3 and escape from tarkov have issues with 14th gen. I never had issues on my 13900k in baulders gate 3 but my 14900k has problems with it and just general windows stuttering with both cpus.

At first I thought it had something to do with my video card and tried just about everying; reinstalling drivers, even reflashed the bios but the problems would persist.
Eventually, one day I stumbled across a Steam Forum post for Dead Space (the remastered version) and someone had posted that downclocking their 13900K solved the problem. I tried it and bam, it worked. Didn't even have to downclock it by much, about 200MHz adaptive across all cores.
I will say that I undervolted my CPU because the cores would hit 100C even with my waterblock, I had a 12900K before which had no problem staying under 80C.
Sure, the 13900K clocked higher, but at an enormous thermal cost.
Anyway, here are my specs:

Hey there guys.. I have a 12900K that never worked right. I got it back when they first came out. I replaced EVERYTHING on my PC only to eventually swap out to a 13700K, and like magic, my PC is running flawlessly.
The symptoms were random freezes, watchdog errors, and really long boot times. At first, I thought it was DDR5 related.. but I replaced the motherboard with an MSI Z790 Tomahawk Wifi DDR4 as a last resort, and it still had the same issues. I also removed all external devices.. it still had the same lockups and freezes.
Anyway, after I swapped to the 13700K, everything has been great. Other things I swapped were the GPU, PSU, NVME, RAM, and COOLER(s). Some were swapped multiple times with different gear. The same problems persisted.
Intel has agreed to RMA the 12900K. I'm waiting for the details on sending it back.
With 30 years of PC work and hobby experiences, this was my first ever bad CPU.

i have been having this issue for quite some time. I have a z790 dark hero and 14900k. I used to have a 13900k that had the issue also and I did a RMA on that and got a refund. Both CPUs had the issue and it seems to be a problem with the current limit not being stable at the asus stock 510 amps. I RMAd the 14900k and got another. Now on my 3rd i9 in less than a year, I locked the amp limit to 400 right out of the box and have had no issues since.
In my opinion is the real problem is the stock Asus settings of 500 amps are literally frying the CPU. The problem primarily occurs in games that have heavy shader loads which invokes a high amperage on the CPU and crash occurs on the video memory as it is crashing the shaders being loaded to the video memory.
As someone who has been pulling their hair out and scoffing at intel/asus it makes me very happy to see attention finally being drawn to this issue. Thank you Steve & GN team

tekken 8 game comes with data gatherer that act almost like a cypto miner. it uses AI to harvest PLAY DATA(even offline plays) of players, like tendencies of button input which moves are being used the most etc. and saves them at local hidden temporary encrypted file to be uploaded to namco' server the next thing it went online. its part of the new game's feature of creating offline AI opponent behaviours that plays like human.
maybe that triggers, intel''s hardware security measure as exploit or malicious spyware and makes it got cut off from memory threads. which leads to what happened.
but this is my early guess. that IF it only occurs on tekken 8 game. see if there is any similar patterns between the type of games inflicted and what kind of known features being implemented that uses the CPU alot. especailly those usage behaviour that can be deem as exploit.

Why don't Intel and AMD have some sort of DIAGNOSTIC stress test that's built into their processors or mandated for the motherboard We have System memory (i.e. DDR5) training done by the MOTHERBOARD. Why not just have a NEW system do an automatic training stress test on first boot Build up a voltage/frequency stability report etc. You could have it display Testing System Do Not Turn Off with a progress report. Then maybe offer a couple CHOICES related to overclocking. And maybe have easy ways to REDO the testing when you get a better CPU cooler or whatever. Maybe a BUTTON on the motherboard, an option in the UEFI and a way to start from your OS... and some automated way to occasional check stability such as the CPU injecting code periodically to test

Why not just have a NEW system do an automatic training stress test on first boot Build up a voltage/frequency stability report etc. You could have it display Testing System Do Not Turn Off with a progress report. Then maybe offer a couple CHOICES related to overclocking. And maybe have easy ways to REDO the testing when you get a better CPU cooler or whatever. Maybe a BUTTON on the motherboard, an option in the UEFI and a way to start from your OS... and some automated way to occasional check stability such as the CPU injecting code periodically to test

I’ve had the instability issues since I got my 13700k back in February of last year. I’m running it a 7900 xtx and 32g of ddr5 ram. At first, I thought the problem was gpu related (since AMD has had issues with the xtx’s drivers in the past), but after looking it up online I realised the cpu was the culprit. Disabling XMP helped a bit (even though it sucks to buy good ram for then using it at stock settings). I also undervolted it, which helped a tiny bit. The game I have the most problem with is by far The Finals. The game CTD with a MISSING_CALLSTACK_ANGELSCRIPT error message. I’ve also had problems in Cyberpunk and Helldivers. I’m glad people are finally talking about these issues because tons of people online have been encountering them! Thanks Steve!

Hey guys. I work for an SI you've reviewed in the past and can confirm that the 13th/14th series definitely have issues with becoming unstable. I've handled over 50 cases with different clients over the past 5 months since I first became aware of it with the bulk of them involving the 13900K and the out of video memory error makes it a dead giveaway. It's gotten so bad that I immediately become suspicious any time I have a client reporting issues and their system has a 13900K. The only way I've found to stabilize this is using Intel's Extreme Tuning utility to turn down the Core Performance Ratio down from x55 to x50, but it's still a defective CPU and I'd recommend to replace it anyway.

I have a 14700kf and tekken 8 and i had this error on the first time i started up tekken 8 with my new pc, i used the same ssd to run the game which previously ran great on an intel 7700 and nvidia 3060 gpu.
I attributed the error to me undervolting the 14700kf using intel extreme utility as well as changing settings in nvidia control panel. Once I set that to default and only changed the BIOS settings on my asrock z790 motherboard to level 3 power management settings, disabled virtualization. Temps and performance have been consistent and no anomalies have occurred for the past 2 months including any updates and patches released for games.
I also have tested hogwarts and cyberpunk as well, and they run fine.

A friend of mine has a dell gaming laptop with a 13700 (i assume mobile chip) and a 4060, and he has the exact same problems as stated at that article.
Whatever game we play, regardless if its indie/AAA, he will crash, the only thing thats changing is how often it crashes. BF2042 is ridiculous, where he might not even get to load in the server before he crashes. His playtime, regardless of undervolting/drivers/clean install is under than 10 minutes. He might get more playtime in indie games, or Farming sim 22 for example, where he might play for an hour before it crashes. But it WILL crash

Talking about collectables I have an XFX brand Nvidia7800GS AGP card in it's packaging, displayed in a cabinet. I've got it on display because the box it comes in is a big X, and looks pretty cool. I've always wondered if it's a good idea having on display as it might get bleached, we live in Glasgow, so sun isn't a regular thing. The AGP 7800GS was 1 of the last AGP cards made by Nvidia, hence why it's collectable.

I've had a brand new in box i9-13900K from Micro Center degrade with stock voltage and clockspeeds with its memory controller initially able to handle 64GB DDR5 6400MHz no issue only for me to have downclock the kit every week until it was unstable with 4800MHz before I finally got an RMA request approved (XMP still voids the warranty, don't mention it). CPU swap fixed all the instabilities and was not the RAM.

EK D RGB AIO (the first one with the ugly lights on the block) 360mm, TT contact frame, Thermal Grizzly kryonaut, -.075 UV, set to 13900ks ratios, no crashing - but like GN - I don't play those games. Just sharing my experience, it would be sucky if they really did have to downclock a top tier processor because it can't algorithmically stay stable.

Why do you not include some of these games into testing There's no wrong answer, just want to know your reasoning. I feel some of these were big enough and are modern enough to be included, but perhaps they take time testing without giving the best most consistent benchmarks like say, cyberpunk to test a GPU.

WRT the bleaching of the graphics card, I've seen that happen too on black anodized aluminum parts that had a white LED near them for a long period of time. I used to have a 980 Ti Classified that had bleaching of the finish on the backplate at the spot where the four little status LEDs are.

yeah my funkin i9-13900K wont launch cyberpunk without syncing all the cores to 52X rather than stock 55 and 58 on the two power cores that boost. Raptorlake also cannot launch remnant 2 without same trick (syncing to 52x accross all power cores). I am on a z790-e asus board.
