Strange
Chris, I like you, but this is a bad tutorial. In the beginning you are saying that you are making this video for average person. But you made things a lot confusing.
You didn't explain basic stuff about how things work. At 3:26 you have this weird website. And this thing was very confusing for me first time I saw this video about a month ago.
I don't know that much about Nextcloud, but I know that there are pretty much two way to set it up: on your local network or you can rent a VPS.
But at 3:26 you pretty much did both, thus confusing the average Joe. You set it up on your local Network, but there's GUI like you are setting up a VPS. And in the middle of this you just randomly say something like 'this is on my local network btw'.
You said a lot of words, but didn't explain the very basic things that actually matter
In other words - bad tutorial. Do better

I get why you used the snap version of Nextcloud for this video. However, if anyone seeing this is planning to live on the snap, I had issues with some of the addons on the snap version. Pico for example would install but not work. If I'm remembering correctly it had something to do with the way the storage is mounted for the snap. I remember something about not having enough disk space even though the server had tons of space and I traced it down to the way snaps mount to the FS.
Your mileage may vary but that was my experience and as a result I removed the snap and just installed it natively onto the system. Haven't had any serious issues in over a year.
Great video BTW!

Hello, I like your video, it makes it look smooth. Would you also consider showing how to set it up on a windows based system ( either with docker or vm ) as this is what is making my life miserable at the moment. I have a windows system with software raid 5 with 4x 1TB, vmware player, ( all that I have at the moment and budget is limited as I have a 2 years old ) . However whatever i do, in vm or docker I am stuck in the consoles, and I do not get any IP presented to connect out. Obviously I am doing something wrong, or I didn-t do something which is obvious to linux users, but I cant put my finger on it. Care to help us on that one too?

Question: I have never used snap packs before now. It automatically sets up the database connection within the snap from what I can tell. Does it use a random database password when installed or is the password the same for all the snaps? If the same should I change it for security purposes or is the snap container secure enough within itself to trust not changing it??
Thx in advance and thx for the tutorial :-)

NO! you are not ready to transfer files!!! you need to setup storage other wise you will fill up your 20gb VM instantly!!! Like most here you all probably have a nas or something. next cloud when setup in ubuntu from the snap or ubuntu server installer does NOT let you specify storage location!!! all research so far shows a very involved process to change that!!! especially if you already have files!!!

So, how would you go about having NextCloud at your house, then being on the road with say a laptop and needing to backup files from your laptop to your NextCloud? Accessing files is easy with a VPN, but to backup to NextCloud offsite is where the issue lies. This can be done though with Synology, but NextCloud would be preferred.

i'm pretty ignorant and dumb so maybe i don't know any better but, i was able to set a static ip during ubuntu 20.04 server LTS setup, no yaml file or cli just used the ascii wizard in the setup easy peasy. appears to be working.

You were concerned that using the SNAP would generate negative comments. I would like to prove you wrong. Nextcloud sever running the entire company I work for...1 year no issues. sudo snap install nextcloud....moved on with my life.

The video is 17 minutes long but the actual setup takes 10s. Literally one command execution and that's it. Where are the deep dives to settings and add-ons etc. ? 17minutes I can't get back :/
