Hackintosh - Legality, Expectations, and Requirements - Chris Titus Tech In this video, I go over Hackintosh. Is it legal? Expectations for starting, and Requirements before you continue Seb: Is it legal? No. Totally no. _maybe_ nobody cares and _maybe_ Appe's inofficial stance is to secretly endorse it in the hope that people are going to get fed up with the rigmarole of installation and updating, cave in and by a piece of their overpriced hardware in the end.
But it's not legal. And if it _ever_ gets in the way of Apple's profit line, their legendary legal department will be over you like a ton of bricks.
But it's not any more legal than smoking weed here in UK, or having a wank in Utah, or whatever.
I'd say, stay off it and just say no (to MacOS!). _Not_ because of legal concerns, but because waste of time, and it's un-Free software.

Nvidia is no longer supported in MacOS. Only chips supported are those already found in 2012 and up Macs. My 980ti worked great on my Ryzen system up to high Sierra. I had to plop in a cheap Rx 470 to get support on Mojave and Catalina.
Also, updates aren-t nearly as difficult anymore! Don-t use a distro of the OS. I-ve had nothing but instability, I have a vanilla kernel on my AMD system with a modified EFI partition. Updates more or less work great because the actual OS is identical to that of a Mac. Some basic changes are needed in the boot partition sometimes.
Legit 98% of a Mac. Everything works down to continuity and Apple Watch unlock.

You are not locked to the version of MacOS you install. If you installed Vanilla MacOS you can update using the Mac Appstore if you have your loaded Kexts injected through Clover Bootloader. Unless you install it on a AMD machine, in which case, you are locked to the version you install because of the Kernel. Surprisingly Apple completely switched to AMD only in their Macs, so unless you have a 600 series or older Nvidia card, you will not be able to boot MacOS with GPU acceleration on an Nvidia Card, unless you Install High Sierra or older and use the Nvidia Web Drivers. Hackintosh has changed alot in the past couple years.

Just so you know, AMD GPU's tend to work better in macOS now because Apple have moved from using Nvidia chips to AMD.
Also, some of the 6xx and 7xx GTX cards will work on Mojave and later, however anything below the 6xx series or above the 7xx series will not work as they were dropped from Mojave.
So basically, it used to be -get an Nvidia GPU for hackintosh-. Nowdays, it's -get an AMD card for hackintosh-.
Almost every RX4xx/5xx higher should work basically out of the box on a hackintosh.

I never understand why anyone would want to take a perfectly good PC and install crapOS on it. Go Windows (guaranteed to work) or install a decent Linux distro (most work fine without hardware issues). I-ve tried most major distros and they have come a long way over the last ten years. Windows has been great for nearly 40 years with a few hiccups in Windows Vista and 8. Most people forget XP was crap first year or so, and now the same people swear they loved it from the start.

I have a budget build Hackintosh
Core i7 4770k (3.6GHZ Up to 4.0GHZ)
32GB RAM
AMD RX 480 8GB
Running MacOS Mojave
Mine is equivalent of a 2017 iMac.
All in I paid $700 for all equipment from eBay and Amazon.
I have (1) 27- production monitor (top) (1) 24- secondary (bottom) (2) 22- vertical monitors for coding (flanking each side of my top and bottom monitors)
I run Linux (ElementaryOS/Kububtu) on a secondary drive.

I use MS Access, need it for my club. Don't like windoze, so I thought, make my laptop a -Hackintoch- install MS Office, good to go. Got hold of the various things I needed, fired it up and installed the Hackintosh, worked well, installed MS Office, and guess what no Access. After a bit of research found out that MS never released Access for the Apple. Bummer, so reinstall windoze :(

Quick heads up, unless you want to stay put on High Sierra, do not get an nVidia card. Apple has dropped support for their drivers starting with Mojave. You can find countless articles online about it. There is even a Twitter hashtag #unblockNvidia. So please do not advertise nVidia to potential hackintoshers. They will be pretty disappointed.

had a hackintosh for the last 2 years now. its nice and all but i get better usage of my gpu through linux. like if you just want a destop experiance hackintosh now adays could be the way to go. for actual performance i think i would just stick to linux or windows. like i get better benchmarks on linux then i do on mac or windows.
