LCARS System 47 Screensaver on Linux - Install and Service Creation - Chris Titus Tech This video goes over the infamous LCARS System 47 Screensaver on Linux. You have seen it in my background and now I show how to use an old 90s screensaver scr file on Linux. I then show how to make a systemd service to activate the screensaver when you are idle for a set amount of time. Full Guide: https://www.christitus.com/lcars-screensaver

First of all, thank you for the video!
EDIT - I solved the problem described below by installing into my regular (64-bit) wine bottle. This has put the scr file into windows/syswow64, from which it can be launched with a simple wine System47.scr /s.
-I cannot get the screensaver to run on my machine; when I tried running it from its own bottle, though (I also attempted using my regular bottle) it complained about not being able to find Macromedia Flash.-
On a side note, on KDE Plasma it is possible to launch a Windows screensaver without using a systemd service: under 'Power Settings', there is an option to launch a script after x minutes. Then it's just a question of doing something like
#!/bin/bash
cd -/Screensavers/
WINEPREFIX=-/.wine wine System47.scr /s

I had this screensaver back when I got my 1st iMac G5 in 2004. It's been many years since I had a Mac. I loved this screensaver. It was so cool!!! After several years running windows pc I got the itch to get another iMac. Its pretty identical to the white IMac I had in 2004 to 2006 but Metallic silver. Anyways, one of the first things I tried to load was this screen saver and I got the error that the screensaver wouldn't install... 'You can't open the application -System47 v2.21for OSX Installer- because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. I did find this site that I downloaded this from years ago but apparently the site has been abandoned. Has anyone running OSX find a way around this?

OooK -Chris Titus Tech!!!
Looks good, but you said to do this and do that then you said -Create a WINE bottle-... what the H--- is a-WINE bottle- ??? Some clarification Please!
I don't drink let alone drink wine... You might mention this in the instructions... I did not see anything in the video about installing a WINE bottle ????
At 66 some things just slip by.... :-(
A little Help if you Please....

If you don't know about it, there is LCARS 24 which was a DOS (windows beta) program. It runs great in DOSBox. You extract all the files to the folder and run it in 800x600 or 1024x768 modes. I prefer 800x600. This is a great video, especially for those Star Trek fans who would like to have an LCARS system running. Thank you.

Yes!
Thanks!
(Finally! :P )
Haven't done it yet, but surely will soon.
I'm going to assume you can pretty much do this for any .scr file ... - looks over at Johnny Castaway - XD
Thanks for another great video!

The selection of screensavers native to Linux has always been awesome, but there are a few awesome old ones, especially from the Win9x era (before they became a favorite vector for spreading viruses)

Chris, changing the IDLE_TIME does not affect when the screensaver activates.
NO difference between:
IDLE_TIME=$((5-60-1000))
And
IDLE_TIME=$((5-1000)).
Any idea what is going on?

Great video. In your other videos I noticed the star trek screen saver and I wondered where you get it. I followed your directions and it worked perfectly. Thanks

The only person I've heard say -Slick- and -Powerful- so many times other than my advisor from SRUs math program is you. I just have to say I'm here for it.
