My issue is confusing me. I have an external hard drive that I use as my main hard drive, because the built-in drive simply doesn't have the space for all of my project files. The drive was working perfectly until I attempted to use my computer today, and it's not showing up under the -This PC- tab in file explorer. It says the device is working fine and the drivers are up to date, but within Disk Management it shows as DISK 1 - UNKNOWN - NOT INITIALIZED. It seems like initialization wipes the drive, which is something I really don't want to do because literally every important piece of media I have is on that drive. What the hell do I do? It's not an issue with the cable, I tried three. The drive works, at least in some capacity, because the light on it still turns on. I don't know, maybe I need to have an IT person come to my house and troubleshoot, but for my work it's imperative that all the data on this drive remains intact, and I'd like to still use it

I have an external hard drive (internal hdd in an enclosure). I dropped it while it was switched off and unplugged the other week. Since then it has been working OK. Now, today, it isn't working.-
When I plug it in and go to My Computer, the green loading bar at the top is continuously there. If I right click on the hard drive (now called -Local Disk- then Windows Explorer will crash. It is like the hard drive is making everything hang.-
I try and run SeaTools or HDTune whilst HDD plugged in but nothing happens (something is blocking??) but when I unplug the hdd immediately both programs will open.-
I can't use these programs because of this problem, as when I plug it back in it wont find it. -
When I go into Computer Management and click Disk Management, It does nothing and just says Connecting to virtual Disk Service at the bottom.. But when I unplug it then it opens and shows me my C drive.
Please help meeeeee

Hi there, using the chkdsk command, I tried to fix my external HDD but it didn't work. Initially, It seemed working by displaying the file system type (NTFS), however, the chkdsk process was ultimately aborted and a message pops out saying -the first NTFS boot sector is corrupt or unreadable-. It then seems trying to read the second sector (displayed such a message) but again, it states that it's unable to determine its volume and state. Ultimately, I couldn't access my data. Any help ???

The problem i'm facing is, when i connect my USB external hard drive with my computer, it makes my computer little slow and Hard-drive shown in file explorer with driver letter but data (files/folders) inaccessible even it disables my Windows Disk Management tool. The question is, what happens when i try to open Disk-Management tool. When i open DM-Tool, it doesn't even show my OS main drive and made halted my computer. It looks like serious problem. Any solution?

For FU-K sake! -And if that doesn't work, start to rewrite the software by clicking the click and scroll down and unless you can't do that anymore!- Who the hell has time for this? Christ, it's like I having to learn German! The damn thing works or I throw it away...I guess. Or...I sit here trying to figure out WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!

very useful. I try using different cords, because some cords aren't made for your device. Well, I hope I don't have to do another recovery because it was so expensive last time. It cost me about $1 per photo and I had about 1K.

I tried the chkdsk but it said that the parameter is invalid. My computer also said that the trouble shoot option is not available.
Does formatting the hard drive delete the old files? Because I need to keep my files

Great Video!
Unluckily - None of these work for me but, Found a solution you should also include -
Go to Device Management > Right click on drive & Assign letter > hit apply & now drive will be visible in explorer.

Please message me if you would sir. I have a few questions and am in a bit of a bind with my external drive. Nothing seems to be working. Think I may have messed up by pulling it out during something critical -
