Agree, but stock market is only the publicly held companies. Stock markets are the sum of what investors believe shares are worth. Economic activity is mostly private and has little to do w stocks. Most companies do not sell stock to public markets. Stocks and Economy.... I think you get it now that they r 2 different animals and act differently. Stocks are usually out ahead of economy btw. Book recommendation...20/20 Money by Michael J. Hanson. Also, returns of the market... are never...average. They are all over the place, but yes over long periods, like 10-15 yrs, you can get an avg annual rtn of 10% , if you keep costs low, keep some holdings in tax sheltered vehicles, and have good diversification or do incredible research. Key is to continue investing and cut spending on things with no ROI. Also, it is good to rebalance to your desired asset class %s. This is a good way to sell high and buy low. If you want a 80% stock to bond allocation and u hit 85/15, then you can sell stock. Of course the time horizon is what matters and how soon you need money. Best to buy a broadly diversified index fund or etf and ride it long. Agree w cash on hand, but sometimes cash is good if you see a stock that is very undervalued and you want to take advantage of that opportunity. But yes, good point ab the time is now. That is smart. One of the best things u can do is to not try and figure out the stock market bc there are wayyy too many variables and it is basically impossible in the short run. Ignore financial media for the most part. Time and compounding are very powerful and low drag. Keep the costs low. There is a lot to unpack here , but mostly I agree and your vids r great! Thx.

One important point - which should be obvious - is that an unrealized loss is not a loss. it is only a loss when realized (the asset sold at a loss). People get antsy when the market goes down and they think they need to cap their losses. When you sell at a loss you switch from an unrealized loss (which is really just a current value of your assets that are less than what you paid), to a realized loss that is a true loss of money.

KEVIN, I am a beginner in computers. My computer started showing a reminder, your windows 10 ProductKey needs to change... PLZ how to get rid of such notifications? Is there any replacement for windows 10 that can be FREELY UPLOADED. YOUR PRECIOUS SUPPORT will be HIGHLY APPRECIABLE.
Thanks & take care.
Sincerely
Zafar

But. Why be wealthy, and have an old car and an old TV......and spending time to plan to do it..........doesn't that beat the objective, 'from the off', given that it's wealth that gives you things worth having? It's more a balance, surely?
Anyway, you're right - happiness is not all about money - it's about being happy.

Bill Gates is a bad example, he's divorcing and the world hates him now! The problem is that people consider it important to spend and have more and more things, material things that obviously lose value as time goes by... A lot of the money people make goes on to support fast foods and junk from China...

Kevin, I wish you would not offer Bill Gates as a good example. You are wrong about him, totally wrong. Gates is rich and he claims to be a philanthropist. His claim is false. Gates is doing great harm while he pretends the opposite. You have fallen victim to a big lie.

Very good video indeed. I am in OZ which is lot harder than the US and as an IT professional, it is very difficult to get a job or even run a business during these harsh Melbourne lockdowns which have depleted finances.
