How to Password Protect a Zip File in MacOS! - TechJunkie Zip files can be super handy for sealing a ton of files and folders into one compressed file, and one of the best features of zipping something is the ability to place a password on it. However, this can be pretty tough, especially if you-ve never really dealt with zip files before. So, if you-re trying to password protect a zip file on MacOS, here-s how it-s done. Commands: cd desktop zip -er [filename].zip [filename]

I tried this and get to the step of asking for the password with the little key symbol, but am unable to enter the password. Nothing happens when I type. When I hit enter, it asks to verify password, so I type the password again and it responds: name not matched.

I tried this, copied it to a usb drive, put it into a windows 10 computer, and unzipped it without it asking me for the password. Only my Mac asked for the password.

I like the easy-to-follow instructions BUT when I got to the line with the key for password, I couldn't enter anything at all.
