Really good points, cannot disagree with anything you said, this could become a video series, how to setup openvpn, owncloud and how to setup your own email server. Personally i looked for some good guides on how to do that correctly and securely but everything i found was pretty hard to follow, obviously not as straight forward as your typical apt get install. Really the only way to protect your privacy now is to run your own services but if you do it wrong your security can be at risk. I think some guides on those topics the distrotube way would be really helpful.

Hello, really good points, thank you for the video. I would add one more thing. People tend to automatically think about the government when it comes to online privacy. In reality the govt will get what ever they want on you anyways if it really wants. The other side of the coin is private companies and corporations accessing your info. How would anyone feel about going for a job interview and the employer using your credit history and medical history to decide if you get hired? Depending on who's asking, I have plenty to hide.

Hey DT just wanted to say I love your chanell! Personally I have gathered tons of very valuable information from your work. Even with all the information available easily today what you ( and some others ofcourse) do is very helpful and hard to find.
I admire you sir. You have shown me that there is still freedom to be had in technology and without you I would still be soooo behind on my way to reaching this freedom.
Thank you I wish you and everyone here the best :)!

Well said Derek. Yes, you can get rid of all the electronics, drive a 1970's car, do everything you can to stay privete, but you'll never have the opportunity to do it 100%. Even if you went off the grid, lived in the Amazon or on a remote mountain top, you can be found. How, these little things called satellites. Sadly they can peer into your most intimate place and you'd never know it. Unfortunately with defeat comes acceptance, even if you don't want to.

So - if your friends are telling you such things about privacy next time -, so maybe it's time to ask them to stay in their sleeping-room for some nights, if they are having fun. :)))) Or maybe you can install a mic and a web cam in their kitchen or living room? I am just kidding, but this is something they do not want for sure!

Of course privacy is important, Ubuntu got into a heap of trouble for selling your search data to Amazon. And even today if you -option out- of sending data to Ubuntu, they still are collecting some data from you. I do not agree with this and they should respect your privacy completely.

Edward Snowden: -Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.- -When you say, 'I have nothing to hide,' you're saying, 'I don't care about this right.

Great video DT. Apathy is killing us as a society. Nobody would ever let Google executives sit in their house all day recording them but if it's an electronic gadget somehow that's different. Laws need to change but that is doubtful due to the money being made by corporate sleaze-balls.

That freedom from unreasonable search doesn't even come from a governnent. Just like gravity, it comes from the Creator. All of the legalese about -no expectation of privacy- in certain situations does not mean the right to privacy can beccanceled by someone who didn't grant it.

Hey, Derek. I think you should continue on the thoughts of this video with another video showing how to improve privacy on Android. btw it seems that you got mixed up with the first and fourth amendments of the bill of rights.
