I use Shortwave for some months now. The latest -beta- version was already really stable. (The first few versions were completely buggy: playback would stop out of the blue, but those were (for me) minor issues.) Highly recommend this latest release!
One thing to mention though: compiling on Arch-based systems takes a veeeery long time, thanks to some Rust dependencies (crates). But IMHO more than worth it, because I don't have to open a website to play the music, with all the cookie questions involved. All the major Dutch radio stations are available, so, for me, a big thumbs up!

DistroTube, there's a terminal based music player I absolutely would love for you to check out called OpenCubicPlayer. It was originally released as Cubic Player for the Unix operating system in the 80's to early 90's. It's been Open Source since the 2000's, and have been ported over to Linux as well! It's a real hidden gem if you're looking for a terminal based music player! Just wanna hear your thoughts on this little piece of software ;3

The main reason I've avoided Flatpak so far is the size of extra packages and time it takes since my connection isn't so great. I guess I need to find out if the different flatpaks can share some of these. To get this I had to download over 600MB most of which came from org.gnome.platform. In the past I think to get Krita I needed over 1GB, most of which were extra packages.

I think Odio is a much better alternative. It has way more -stations- and it includes many more countries. It is available as snap and as appimage. ( i prefer appimage, cause in the snap package when you use the mouse it shows a hand as a cursor like we are in the 80's!)

Thank you for this. No longer do I need to visit different websites or use Iheartradio. I was able to save a song to my music folder. Worked, flawlessly, for me. Awesome little program.

Shortwave is the successor of Gradio. The Gradio developer wanted to rewrite Gradio using Rust, but later started a completely new project called Shortwave.

Yeah, but there's nothing like putting up an expensive homemade antenna stretching across the property only for it to not work well.

Sounds like a good program to just kick back and chill listening to tunes. I think I may install tonight and see how it works.

Check out the WebSDR and KiwiSDR sites for real deal, live listening. Pick an antenna site and frequency and you're good to go.
