Why YouTubers Steal Each Others Content.- (And Other Questions Answered) DistroTube In this lengthy rant video, I address a few questions that I've been receiving from viewers. Questions include my thoughts on the nano editor, alternatives to YouTube, and why so many YouTubers steal each other's content? - https://lbry.tv/-DistroTube:2 - DT on LBRY

It's fine that you point out that software is proprietary, but the notion that proprietary software is garbage is toxic. People put lots of time, energy, and money into software and they do deserve to be paid. In the perfect ideal world, we would all build open source software and everyone would get paid what they are worth through donations or something. But the reality is, most open source devs don't make any money for their contributions, and if it weren't for closed-source software jobs paying well, there would be less developers out there to make open source software in the first place. Monetary incentives drive the industry in so many ways and indirectly drive open source development as well.

So if people don't care but yet ask you why you mention if a software is proprietary , then they are angry with them self's? if what you say about some people do care about proprietary software and that's the reason you mention it, don't you think they would already know if it was proprietary software or not, because they do care? maybe the real reason why you mention it, is to let people know that YOU care, because its irrelevant to others who already care because they already know if its proprietary or not. BTW I use Windows 3.1 :)

I like the part about YT. You're totally right, I also record my videos sometimes 1,2 weeks before publishing, because I never know if I will have time the next week to create/edit the video, but if you want to make the algorithm happy you need to upload consistently.
Many people don't realize how much time goes into these videos, especially when you're inexperienced like me and I need sometimes up to 10 takes until I'm somewhat happy -. Btw, I know your time is limited but, show yourself sometimes on your discord, man!

You keep using the words -opaque- and transparent almost interchangably. Opacity is when you can't see through something. It's called opacity because you're talking about the degree to which you can't see through it. If (visible) software has no opacity -setting- /feature, then it has -all- the opacity, not none.
I imagine the word was chosen over -transparency- because the reverse could be anything between translucency and transparency, and it feels weird to make a number bigger in order to see less of something.

Hey DT, maybe you've talked about this but how do you take notes about the system info video ideas etc? I'm guessing vim or emacs. Where that really falls apart for me is sometimes a good screenshot is much easier than trying to describe everything. My other requirement is the ability to search all my notes. I discovered one note a few years ago and it has been a huge help at work. But I don't have a windows personal computer at this point. I've considered the wikis to host locally but that may be overkill.

Would you please consider doing a piece on the provenance of packages? It's very frustrating, as a developer and a FOSS community member, to take drive-by abuse from someone who's struggling with a third-party package.
You've got some reach. Maybe you could help get the word out that, just because a package or program is in your distro's repository, that doesn't mean the developers put it there!

I used nano for a while and stopped using it because it crashed in the middle of editing a file and I lost the content. It's not completely stable. That never happened to me with nvi, vim, vile, emacs or any of the other editors that I've used.

I greatly appreciate watching several videos on the same topic from different creators. It really rounds out my learning and thinking. Especially for things that are totally new to me, or things I have never thought about before.

It's OK to point out that a software is proprietary. But when you call it garbage just because it's proprietary, all it shows is your prejudice. Just like Richard Stallman, who you say does more harm than good to Linux

I never care about that kind of thing, hell sometimes I want the other guy's take on the topic as well. Like I like DT's style on super geeky stuff but on general stuff I might checkout someone else.
