Why shouldn-t we? If we manage to do that safely and we can make sure it can-t inject thoughts or something like that, I see no problem with this. People seem to be very afraid of AI and cyborgs, but isn-t that mostly irrational fear? It-s a combination of the uncanny valley and a fear of the unknown. And just because AI have some traits we have doesn-t mean they have all traits we have, and even less that they have especially the traits we have that we find threatening and not those that balance those out. If people are afraid of AI they should be afraid of people even more! Because we can program them in a way that they don-t have the ability to become harmful!
I know that a Pandora-s box might be opened, and that after the Gun and the atom bomb, another kind of weapon technology may be developed and transform our world unchangably, but we can-t stop that development anyways because there-s always going to be someone that-s going to build that stuff because people are hungry for power. But why shouldn-t AI be our friends instead of our enemies? Why shouldn-t there be a symbiosis instead of an enemy?
I believe technology isn-t inherently good or bad, it always depends on how we use it and how safe we use it. I believe in science and progress, and you can-t stop progress no matter how hard you-re trying to swim against the current.
So let-s make AI and augmentation something we all profit from.
Also, why is it bad that they-re taking away our work? We could leave the work no one wants to do to AI and dedicate ourselves to art and science, we could make knowledge and culture the central part of our society. No more talented people who could never show their true talent because you can-t get money with art and no more geniuses who were never able to revolutionize science because they were from a poor background or an oppressed minority!
The time we gained through automation could also be used to educate ourselves on politics and have a more democratic democracy than we already have!
I don-t believe in Utopias, but I do believe that we should try to see things from a different angle sometimes.
EDIT: Also I recommend the sci-fi manga series -Lost CTRL- by Evelyne Park, it-s a very good story about that topic and it-s underrated and more people should read it.
Also thank you for reading this insanely long comment, reader probably not existing as no one reads such a wall of text.

I sincerely hope people replacing their eyes doesn't become a widespread thing (unless it's people that are blind maybe. It's one thing to enhance your eyesight, strength, etc, it's another thing to replace -the windows of the soul-, the one thing that makes us so capable of showing emotion and our humanity to others. Just think of it, you have happy, amazing news for your friend, and you go to tell them. Their facial muscles form a smile, but you're met with nothing but a blank, glassy expression in their eyes. I find that rather sad.

I personally don't see any other way for the human race to survive the next millennium. Even if we stop some of the biggest environmental issues facing us today, this planet will not last. and humans really I don't think will survive out in space especially if we are to find a planet thats even remotely inhabitable like earth. We just consume too much and are so fragile. I think one day we will have to -evolve- If we are to progress into further into the universe.

One of my fears is this technology could be used for mass surveillance via mind reading which would be terrible for the individual and could lead to a shit storm of executions from individual wonders, especially from special needs individuals and would be the end of free speech
Whoever controls this technology would be able to do nearly anything good or bad

In this episode the team finds a community of people that are living in a shrinking some connected thrue a nural link that can manipulate their memory's
Think about that scenario before accepting this kind of modification

This doesnot seem like it could work out well. The goal is to make sure people don't become irrelevant. but there is limited capacities of the human brain. even if there is a merger, which would be dangerous. but there is no limit to what robot s can add to their brain area.

This idea will not work in our competitive society. The rich will be the first to get -smarts- with their money and that would essentially make them gods against whom you'll never get a fair chance. The game would have been rigged from the start.

Sharing all your mental information online would mean you lose your individual self. Everything becomes a online copy of something or someone. Walking around with some companies parts in your head? Scary. Exploits and spying will be even worse.

And it will be like that in the future. You could see that in movies like -Bicentennial Man- or even in -Ghost in the shell-.
Our capabilities will be upgraded and boosted with technology.
