CalyxOS Review: The Private & Secure Android ROM For Everyone! - Techlore CalyxOS aims to bring privacy and security by default to everybody. This review will evaluate CalyxOS, a custom Android ROM, from the Calyx Institute to break down what it means for you. CalyxOS features FOSS, privacy-by-default, with MicroG for better Android App compatibility without Google Play Services. A) Performance differences between GrapheneOS & CalyxOS are likely exacerbated by lower-end hardware. B) CalyxOS got an installation tool: C) We-ll be doing a very thorough test between Graphene, CalyxOS, iPhone SE, and Stock android very shortly. D) To clarify, GrapheneOS serves a demographic, but it-s one and sole purpose is security. There are many compromises you may have to make on Graphene, an issue greatly improved by CalyxOS. My friend I loved your video. I tried Lineage OS 17. 1 on Pixel 4 as daily driver for 2 months and went back to my iPhone. It just wasn-t doable. Issues like: speak phone not working, Bluetooth not working, and contacts randomly vanishing held it back from being what it could become. I tried lineage 18. 1 and now the camera and microphone don-t work. I followed the steps precisely so not sure what is going on BUT I-m very happy to hear you mention Calyx. I am in the process of is taking it on my Pixel 4 and hope it can truly be my new daily driver. Thanks for bringing the Calyx foundation to light: it espouses values I can stand behind! In the world of ubiquitous surveillance where the idea of privacy is fading fast, we need voices and actors to bring back those precious values of privacy and independence. Keep it up!

I've been using it now for two or three months and couldn't be happier. I use very little Google stuff so I miss nothing. I do use Google Maps and I don't have micro g and they work just fine.
The only problem I've had was that when I put Calyx on, the microphone wouldn't work. This happened on two different phones, both Pixel 3A XL. I added Robin assistant, and that somehow allowed the microphone to work. I don't actually use Robin as I don't I like assistants, it's just having it there works

I dont now, you do sound a little biased. I love my GrapheneOS and couldnt it be that the slower response time may be due to security features? Because if that is the case for me its worth waiting half a second.

Will you update this review or do another following GrapheneOS allowing sandboxed Play store Apps install - Should mean all play store apps will now work while maintaining privacy.

Wth do these OS's only really work on Google phones! It defeats a lot the purpose of not supporting big tech when the hardware you need to buy is supporting big tech!

I'm looking to get a Pixel 6 next year. I'm really hoping they can get it running on the Tensor chip, since it's still ARM based.
