People gatekeep to self justify their own extensive efforts undertaken for their privacy or security considerations.
This is how arrogance often works across the board, not just tired to the cyber community. For example, -PC = Master race- memes started because PC users need to feel self assured after doling out $5, 000 dollars for a gaming rig, instead of only spending $500 on a equally decent experience via a console like the -normies- do.
If they simply don't bother comparing themselves to others, there would be no problem. No need to undermine others for -not being private enough- if they are self assured of themselves and satisfied. (-Comparison is thief of joy-)
Tldr:
Undermining others to make your own efforts not feel like a waste. Hang out with a circle jerk group of people in the same circumstances to reinforced this further.

I like using Discord, WIndows 10, and Microsoft Office but I can find ways to make them more private and secure while replacing things I can replace with FOSS. One thing to remember while FOSS can replace things, there are things they just can-t replace and people might need that one thing. Ultra secure and ultra private software and hardware has a market, but not everyone can or wants to use those. Also people remember privacy and security are two different things.
Somewhat related I remember needing help with rooting my phone so ofc I went to XDA, and I got no help. The discord for XDA made me move away from even trying, just from their responses. If someone needs help either help them, get them help, or don-t respond.

THIS. I'm currently getting into other forms of activism outside of privacy (which I'm not gonna name for compartmentalization reasons, and it's the same issue: a super small and vocal elitist minority creating an unwelcome environment for new people.
I'm still fairly new to this other bit of activism, and I've experienced quite a bit of this elitism already. If I didn't care so much about the cause, then I could certainly see myself in another timeline getting disinterested right at the outset.
Snobbery in any form of activism is pretty much a malignant growth that needs to be nipped right in the bud.

This was an incredible video. I'm sure it took a lot of work and time. Much of it comes down to treating others as you wish to be treated. No one wants to be demeaned, talked down to, or bullied into moving in a life direction. Privacy is not on most people's top 10 list of computer skills to learn. As you said, focus on the individual's need and help them improve. We desperately need to continue to educate people on the importance of their freedom. Their freedom and ours is directly tied to privacy. Thanks for the work and the video.

It is important to encourage people taking however small steps towards privacy on your request. You have to let them know you appreciate them listening to you. Not only is it better for them, it's better for all of us to build a healthy relationship with online services. If we don't give these data mongerers the data they want, they'll eventually shift to a more privacy respecting business model or just go bust. Right now it looks like a pipe dream but let's try to move a millimeter closer to it everyday

Thanks! I really enjoy your video! You make me sit back and think. The -you are not 100% privacy focused so you don't worth it- is very annoying. It's also something I heard by other people than -privacy advocates- to tell you what you do is useless.
If someone steals your home, you will not say -hey take the rest, I don't worth anything anymore-. This is a very annoying thing.
Anyway thanks again, I will take care of your solutions

I think there's a place for proprietary software. Imagine you spent years developing something and then after selling it because of your license someone can just copy it and sell it for half the price. Even though I think the software should be open and hosting / support should be sold I think there are situations wer a person / company should be able to make closed source software w/o being labelled a sellout.

I find it harder and harder browsing the internet with Tor. I get more and more Captchas slowing me down (and wearing me down) and even though I answer correctly, I frequently never reach websites. Some websites don't even accept Tor users at all. How can we keep using Tor when the net keeps adding (fake) anti-bot checkpoints (often initiated by Cloudflare, which are more like anti Tor check points?

Really important! Thank you so much for making this, I agree with your sentiment. I used to transfer family to tools that were really difficult for them to use and they ended up confused. I changed that, shifted them to more manageable tools, and now they use it with no issues!
If it hasn't been done already post it to those subreddits, more people need to see this.

You either support the masses or you support government capitalists. If you don't care about helping people with their privacy and/or being empathetic, you're only helping those who profit from the continued exploitation of our privacy.
