Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1

If you like fantasy art, youre probably, like me, fascinated with dragons. Although these beautiful creatures dont exist, its certainly possible to draw a realistic dragon. The Game of Thrones dragons are such examples of great dragon design, and I think for many people theyre the main reason to watch the show. Lets be honest, they look totally badass, especially sincespoiler alert Viserion has been turned into an ice dragon. For an artist, this blue undead dragon can be a great, inspiring subject to draw. So if it inspired you to want to learn how to draw a dragon, or especially how to draw dragons the easy way, you came to the right place. In this tutorial Ill show you how to draw a dragon step by step, starting with a gesture sketch, building a skeleton, adding body masses, and finally drawing the details. Ill show you that dragon drawing can be easy if you only do everything in the right order. You dont have to follow me strictlyif you do, youll draw the ice dragon, but feel free to modify my steps and adjust them to your own style to draw any other dragon. Most of the steps are presented in a form of speed drawing to keep the tutorial from growing too longfeel free to pause every time you need it. A few words before we start. Ill draw my dragon digitally, in Autodesk SketchBook Pro, but the method presented here is universal. However, if you want to draw a dragon traditionally, its best to have a light table or at least a window to draw the particular stages on separate sheets of paper. It can be hard to keep track of all these lines if you keep them all on one sheet. Also, although this method of drawing dragons is easy, its not fast. If you want to draw a beautifully detailed dragon, it requires time and lots of patience! About the author: my name is Monika Zagrobelna and I made it my mission to make learning how to draw simpler. This is a fantastic tutorial! I've never seen anyone use that curved line technique to make it look 3D, but it is very clever and helpful, I might have to try it myself on other drawings. Thank you for the tutorial!
