FULL FREE COURSE: The full course What Every Photographer Should Know About Lenses is now available: This is lesson 2 of 16, from the Jas: Although I knew just about everything in this video and it's a nice reminder of certain details, something's bugging me out: I shoot event with a 50mm on my Nikon DX format camera. and, it's definitely not an 80mm equivalent, because - as you pointed out - it is not. It's a cropped fov of a 50mm lens. That closes the gap just right between me and the performers when I just on the edge of the stage (I'm a concert photographer.
Just wanted to mention this, because it's a bit confusing, as you talk about the fact that the focal don't change, but then say that a 50mm lens is the same as an 80mm lens on APS-C. that's not true.
I never though about it, but just got why I love my 50mm lens on APS-C so much. the fov never changed. LOL

Dude, I let the video play without looking at it, and I thought one of my Tim Ferriss podcasts started playing. Your inflections and the clarity at which you can explain the subject is just as precise as his. well, the way you can explain THIS subject. I don't think he's given any tutorials on photography. :D.
Great tutorial and thank you!

Wow, you really helped explain a lot of very complicated issues. I bought some lenses for my old camera and I realized why this failed horribly. Are their any websites that can determine lens compatibility with your camera?
Thank you!

I've watched a lot of photography instruction videos and yours are very clearly presented with great examples and metaphors to help in understanding these topics! Its difficult to explain what makes a great instructor, but you nailed it.

Nobody has commented yet? This video is awesome. You explain everything crystal clear with only a few but essential pictures. I got a EOS 70D since two years, but now I actually understand everything. THANK YOU!

All light rays do not intersect inside the lense at the optical centre. Light rays are refracted throughout the cross section of the lens to intersect at the focal point, where then your camera sensor is!
