is there a security and privacy benefit to setting up and using a VPN in my android phone (not a degoggled phone? I don't plan to download torrent and I do not need geospoofing, but just the regular internet data use, such as news apps, email, web browser, and data that apps use (for example, Waze, Twitter, Youtube, Calendar, etc. What are the benefits? I can see the immediate benefit of adblocking, but what are the benefits over using my smartphone without VPN? finally, are there downsides to having VPN on? for example, Netflix or amazon prime video not working? Thank you for any education you can provide.

I think it's worth to flash and use /e/ if you can't get a Linux phone. /e/ is a fork of LineageOS that aims to be completely free of everything Google.
They're far from being 100%, but it has their own implementations that LineageOS with Gapps and LineageOS with microG don't. /e/ is also focused on the open-source-side, so it's not just another proprietary alternative to Google's.
I think you should consider taking a look on it and analyze it deeply. They're maintaining phones that LineageOS removed from their list.

In addition to the steps you outline I add a faraday cage for any device I may have with me when I'm out & about. There are many available on Amzn. They can be tested for effectiveness by the amateur; procedure(s) here on YT. If the effectiveness is inadequate, the faraday cages can be nested. All this may not establish privacy but probably attenuates the constant tracking and profiling. At least this to the best of my knowledge as an amateur crotchety af dotard. Any feedback?

Hey Rob! Any suggestions for a gaming console phone? Something that I would just play at home. I was considering to buy an iOS device because game recording seems easier there. All smartphone that I use sucks (usability alone not yet considering privacy) so I'm going to move to a dumb phone or maybe a linux phone? But I'd like to have a, I guess -gaming- phone that could only game or maybe have brave browser installed as well or something. Thanks for the trouble.

Thank you for this video. As I understand you can do some steps to improve your privacy on a standard Google Android phone. But, you never will achieve the privacy you would have on a Linux or degoogle phone. A question I have is, are there more sellers of readily available degoogle phones for Europe? With maybe a bit less older models? Thx for the video.

What if I buy a new android phone, and create a Google account that has no personal information like a credit card number can I use that to access the play store? Or would that not help the problem? What a bow the Amazon store for kindle Could we use that in place of the play store? Or are they just as bad as Google?

Great video! Can any additional Privacy be gained by Rooting one's phone? If so, what additional benefits are there in a Rooted device? What Apps/Services can be used to disable, stop, block send disinformation to Google using Root, while still using the Stock OEM Android OS/Skin?

Can you please tell if my mobile manufacturer can track me even if I reflash my phone? Like is it possible that the drivers for the components on the device is written in a certain way that they are always sending the data to the phone manufacturer even when the software is changed?
