Thanks for the great info. I'm looking to get a VPN, especially for gaming as I have experienced online gaming and being -booted- by someone ddos'ing my internet. Fortunately I was able to get my router up and working in a couple hours, but I'm not super techy. I have heard of other online gamers getting their internet taken out for days and longer because of these online cheaters. One group of people even call themselves KYW - Kill your wifi. Cause that's what they do. And they are able to find out a persons general location when they get their IP address because a few gaming servers are peer to peer or something like that. So I need a VPN to protect my IP addy. Cheers

I want to stress the point Rob made about the connection variant using VPN -> TOR -> Internet. Depending on the -strangeness level- of your government, you should really consider it over using plain TOR. E. g. in Germany it is known that you are almost considered a criminal by your ISP and the government, when you use TOR. Even the messanger -Telegram- is considered -conspiracy theorist anti corona flat earth elvis lives- territory, which is insane considering the hundreds of millions of users of the application. Long story short, it may be a good thing, when your government and/or ISP does not know you are using TOR.

honestly if I want privacy I use my silent pocket with a phone that is never ever at my home. when I use that phone no other phone of mine is -on- or near by. This phone I use is bought with cash and has no google connection. It only uses text. A tor phone can be used for private e mail and then you have privacy. use a paper day timer for all personal and private numbers and appointments.
Otherwise a clean or average front can be maintained.

OpenVPN is Cisco. Cisco makes hundreds of millions of dollars from government contracts each and every year. Sooooo, I'd say the government is heavily associated with OpenVPN and can get what they want when they want it. If A=B and B=C then A also equals C i. e. the commutative property. Come on man! He said to secure email communications, video, etc. you're going to need more than the Tor Browser (i. e. you'd need Tor router because SOCKS5) but in another video he said that server to server email communications (e. g. gmail to protonmail or vice-versa) are SMTP and by default unsecured and in plain text. So, does using a Tor router somehow do away with SMTP?

I'm sorry but the deep state has technologies that are far beyond anything we even know about or understand that can outmaneuver any countermeatures we take. At best all we can do is evade the most obvious layers of spy tech. What needs to happen is a conversation about HOW THE HELL we got to this point to begin with and HOW TO ROLL all this spy tech back.

So since I don't have either at this point, my IP address for my devices is compromised right? So how does it work, you start using a VPN and data collection is no longer possible moving forward? However, what they have collected beforehand is stored and sold? I guess this is a silly question, but is it possible to obtain new addresses? Tech newb here btw.

Hello Rob, where can we contact you for more info regarding your VPN? I tried your website but didn't where/how to address you.
Also, if you're on a VPN router and you sign into an online account (bank acct, amazon, gmail, etc, does that defeat the purpose of the VPN? Do you have any good resources where I can learn more about this? Thanks.

Great video! Some nuanced points on the interaction of Tor and VPN missed. There's are use cases and ways to combine these services. Also I would say that this is not the baseline. Understanding and development of good OPSec is fundamental. If your leaking personally revealing data like a sieve; Tor & VpN won't protect you.

Excellent video! You say that you don't need a vpn when using mobile data ad mobile data will not show your IP address. but what about mobile hotspot? Say your using a laptop to surf the internet from your mobile hotspot, do you need or suggest a VPN? I ask as I use my mobile hotspot all the time because I travel.
