Can you do an update on this video? This didn't really help me. I have R9 270 ; 32 GB ram. I have kernel 5.7. I don't want to run a custom kernel or any other tricks if I can avoid them. I have wine-staging 5.17; playonlinux; lutris installed. None have helped. Game I'm trying to run is Strider 2014 which plays flawlessly in win 7 & 10 on same PC. It requires a DX 11 gpu which the r9 270 contains. I think I have one of the lesser supported AMD gpu's in Linux. I thought the point of improvements to steam via Proton, were supposed to minimize these kind of hurdles. Nothing has changed for me in Linux gaming since Proton was announced quite some time ago. I read on Phoronix that kernel 5.9 might yield some improvements for this GPU series, but I'm not holding my breath. It's a shame since it works so well in windows but I prefer not having to if possible. I'm going to upgrade to a newer 570 8GB soon, but it would be nice to get this r9 270 working first so I can set up an older pc as a lite linux gaming machine and if not will have to make it a Windows gaming machine. In any event, I appreciate your efforts & videos Chris. Thank you.

You can just launch protontricks gui, and you will get window where you can select games you have installed on steam.
This custom proton version will be useful i think. Now i need to find custom version of proton that does not have fullscreen hack, because that ruins performance in quake champions at lower resolutions than my desktop resolution.

Any ideas? Because an RPM or appimage would just be too damn much work I guess.

When I try to add a custom proton version, it doesnt show up in Steam. Anyone else with this problem?
EDIT: I managed to fix it. For other peoiple with the same problem: place the custom proton folder in --/.steam/root/compatibilitytools.d/-, instead of --/.steam/steam/compatibilitytools.d/-. That fixed it for me.

This is one of the few things i've not done in Linux yet, I need to get my games migrated so I can spend all my time in Linux. Right now not all my games can work sadly, but i know pci-e passthrough is a option I can explore for that last bit to not dual boot anymore.

think you so much for making this video prior to this i end up wiping my 2nd HDD just to get the new resident evil 2 to work installing lutris version that i'm stuck at the loading screen installing mf in wine tricks etc

Path of Excile options explanation somehow wasn't in the video part and only audio. Starting from around 5:16 you open properties and the new window was either offscreen or just not recorded.

I really appreciate you making this video. I'm busy with college right now, but I can see myself going back and finding this tutorial in a few months.
