6 Mistakes New Linux Users Make - Chris Titus Tech
video description
Also that part which you referred to as Linux does not need an antivirus as natively it's very secure, I would agree to disagree on that part. What's the point of a rolling release when a particular functionality does not even function the way it should. I have used quite a few linux-based operating systems but to be honest, my experience with linux is as far as ease of usage is concerned and security concerns of linux, I don't think it's that great. When configurations take a tonne of time what will happen to the actual productivity. If someone can answer that.

Newbie in Ubuntu, coming from using windows since 1992. From Aldus Pagemaker to Adobe Indesign, photoshop, illustrator, and Coreldraw, there was other software but these were the heavy used ones.
I was surprised that I can open Pagemaker and Indesign files with libreoffice,
The printers work, but sometimes are buggy, have to try several times. I tried downloading the drivers but it has not been smooth. I have epson et-2720 and hp laser jet 2420.
I am having a hard time with the scanners: Epson et-2720 sometimes it scans and the rest of the time there is no connection. Epson perfection 1670 has not work, it might be too old.
For the internet it is perfect. But maybe I tried to go too fast and might have to start over.

Hey Chris. Thanks for the Linux noob videos.
As a Linux noob just starting to play with Manjaro. I really love reading and hearing about how Linux is so freeing and customisable, but one common thing I have experienced is -learn how to...-, and I frequently sit here asking myself... how?
Are there secret resources that I don't know about? Do I just play and break it, reinstall and start again?
There is a sense of frustration in not knowing the basics enough, and not being able to ask the right questions to get the answers.
Not sure if you or anyone else in the community can point me in a direction to learn enough to ask smarter questions.

About Windows programs: it takes a lot of time for new users to realise they do not all need them. I kept a dual boot bc I did'nt know how to go around -the Windows world-. Now I know, if you're just a simple user (I'm a doctor, I just need a spread sheet, a word processor, PPT and email; I use OpenOffice for years). In my free time, I play Steam games. All of this works out of the box with Linux Mint. Conference meetings are done with my browser. If, like you say, you do need a lot of very specific propriety software, I 'm not experienced enough to know what you should do.

Even a command line to remove me from the group! 2/ Libre Office writer and spreadsheet uses the same configuration file ! Ie I change the save path in one and it changes the path in the other ! Ps I'm using ver 20.3.

Linux has viruses, the advice do t install one only applies to users who never go outside the repo installers (which btw sometimes you have no choice but to install externally) and also assumes the repos never get compromised. News flash it's only a matter of time before that happens. There are viruses and exploits injected via the moderated source already. Look at Apple, you can't get much more moderated and controlled than apple but someone injected viruses into the app store apps. If you think Linux can't get viruses your a nieve at best simple

#1 Mistake that new Linux users make is thinking there are mistakes to be made in Linux :)
That's like -accidentally- formatting your SSD by clicking through 3 prompts a mistake >.>
I use Linux almost entirely through the CLI(pretty rare for me to actually work with a machine that actually has a desktop environment installed) so the only real mistake you can make is the type in the thumbnail lol. Nothing like typing:
/-
instead of
./-
especially if that command you just ran was zip or a recursive removal of files/folders XD

New users. Follow this advice to save yourself a lot of month of time(2:34). When I started using linux I jumped straight in to bald Arch. I love hard ways, and by using arch with no experience I broke it and reinstalled it several times. After a while I gave up and just started distro hopping for some weeks. Now I am just a basic Manjaro user because I still love arch, but the easier way. All the time of me pretending to be cool was just a waste of not using my PC properly.

I am new to the Linux world with Zorin 16 Pro. I have gone thru the throttling of how well I liked my choice. The first day I was excited I got things to basically work. Then a couple of days later I went thru buyers remorse as things would do up and down on the satisfaction level. After a week, things got better. I am a little deflated after my gaming experience with my new controller.
