Microsoft is going head on the attack on -Virtualization- space. They have realized the the OS is becoming nothing but an app.
As per what you commented on windows ditching window kernel to use the linux kernel. They are, what do you think this is going to do ? They a becoming a deFacto virtual hardware, where any and all software is going to be run on. Kind of like a -virtual OS- This means everything in the future needing to run anything needs Microsoft -Hardware abstraction-. Genius plan.
Back in the day it was the PE format. Now is the new hardware virtual format. :)
They are placing themselves as abstraction layer between your hardware and anything running on top. Meaning more power to dictate instruction sets and hardware designs. No potential new users for Linux, Gaining any and all feature sets from any os etc....
The only question is if they have the dedication to see this through and prevent direction change from some boneheaded VP.
Just Genius.

I genuinely think its likely that Microsoft pulls an Apple like move and switches to the Linux kernel. Unlike Apple they have to take their time to build it up, because backward compatibility is a huge part of their business model. Apple's Classic and Rosetta compatibility layers were both kind of terrible during those transitions as they ran in software. They are putting the pieces in place right now. Hardware assisted virtualization will allow MS to transition way more neatly. However I don't think a large amount of Applications for Windows care about the kernel as much as libraries and APIs. Once we get past drivers and security software, everything they can use a hypervisor for now can simply be flipped to maintain App compatibility, if needed. Apps slow to transition can just be run in a Windows Sandbox type environment.

For people who suffered for so many years and kept up with MSoft until they could afford a mac, it a bummer. They never wanted that... I mean big companies when feeling kind off lagging behind in the market they just acquire or kind off the idea ..but they forget it's been three decades they have been beating around the bush with some shitty os which was so much toll on students or somebody who wanted to do some serious work except playing games. I knew this was coming since the time nadela announced the acquisition of Github. What to say it took them 2 decades just figure out that they have to give expand/fullscreen button window command shell. MS never wanted their users to go to shell.

That argument about windows 10 spying on you is laughable. EVERY DEVICE THAT HAS INTERNET IS SPYING ON YOU. You just focus on the tree and you don't see the forest. Your browser is spying on you, google is spying, your smartphone is spying. Stop with that shitty argument please. If you want to use the rest use them but that argument is total bs. If you want to have privacy go live in a cave.

The point is, is that Windows can only lose share, the rest of the rabble can't gain share (they are not good enough), and that says a hell of a lot.
The simple truth is, if MS had stuck with XP and just refined it, it would have retained market share. MS is it's own worst enemy it THAT regard, but, of course, their real income is based on planned obsolescence.

Out of the box, Linux obliterates Windows when it comes to speed of install, updates, software installation and customization. Most of this can be scripted within Linux without any extra software and configuration. I spent days getting Windows to be exactly like I want. With Linux, it all took just over an hour.

Microsoft is slowly becoming less relevant. This makes them very dangerous. They have never been a friend to Linux, so beware.
On the flip side, Linux users are far to trusting, kinda like Trojans. What do you guys think? Should we let that giant horse with
a Windows logo on the side into the city?

Have you seen the stock price of Microsoft developing over time?! It is due to their market growth. .NET and Azure are very powerful frameworks that companies worldwide are using. Many big companies and all of the banks and hospitals are choosing Windows over anything else.
