Thank you Chris.... Learned from this! Two things, if you or someone could help out? I followed your instructions and I am using Mint 19.2 I can make an working entry appear where I want it, but it does not display the icon. The wording is there, but no icon. I tried two different ones, and even tried .jpg as well as .png. No icon. Does Mint do things differently? Also, I would have liked to put the shortcut into Mint's category of -Sound & Video-. However, you said NO spaces, so what do I do for this category? I tried to scrunch it all into -one- word, but that fails. I also tried using an underscore to mimic the spaces but that fails too. I can always add it to another, one word category (like -Graphics-) but still would like to know how to make it work. Thanks in advance to you or anyone for the answers to those two questions!

Appimage files, are the WORST thing ever created, this is totally INSECURE, you give FULL access to NOT installed software, how is possible that ANYONE can run a program no matter if you have an admin password?...if this is the future of linux, then there's no point having an admin password, once the system is open, with this shitty appimages files anyone can run anything, there's no SECURITY at all!...it looks like the developers that invented this shit, were too LAZY to keep the security of linux...at least for me, I'll NEVER use those shitty apps in this format!...I can't believe that many users doesn't take some time to read how the security can be broken with these files!...Damn!

DUDE!! I see you are using GOOGLE Keeps for notes. may I suggest using either Joplin or Standard Notes? Both are cross-platform. I use StandardNotes now because I don't need the cloud service...it was easier to install/use. But, Joplin seems more useful in the long run. You can tag and title your notes - I don't remember being able to do that in Google Keeps. Also, you REALLY need to tell us which distro you are doing this all on (most YTers fail to tell us), because you can't do what you are doing on ALL distros. I thought I heard Debian, but you also mentioned Arch.

I understand that linux philosophie run around the fact that you should use the existing librairies already present on the system. But let's be honest, everybody experienced a lot of dependencies problem to manage, and the App image is a very clean solution for this. Also, nowaday , disk space usage is no longer a problem.

Thanks for this video. Linux noob here. I use Linux Mint 19.3 and could get the menu to display the Kdenlive icon but it also lists the .desktop file and the icon. png file when I type 'Kdenlive' in the search box . How to stop these two files from being displayed on the menu? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, you are awesome. I learned lots of things about Linux from you. Please keep making videos... One more thing can you make a video about how to make an executable program to a python file(with all environment packages bundled in it). Or any better way to create a python app for linux.

Ubuntu Noob here: So that's great, and pretty easy to do. But it seems fiddly. I mean if I'm doing all of this work, what's the operating system for? But what happens when Kdenlive has an update? How are you notified? Do you have to go through this same process all over again?

Thanks. New to Linux 3 days now and Your video was very helpful, added Freecad 2.0 to both my Linux mint laptop and my Zorin desktop. Good riddance Microsoft. Side note, I think Mint is easier than Zorin No problems right from installation.

Linux Mint doesn't have a .local/share/applications folder or anything similar that I can find.
I did copy and edit a desktop shortcut to make it launch. Problem is it's not in the Menu so I can't search for it. Not a big deal though.

I made hundreds of portables in my day using Thinstall and although had great success with most windows programsi could never get VMWare Player or Virtual Box to become portable. It would be the ultimate if this program could.
