It's Ryzen and Radeon RX Vega vs. Core i9 and GeForce in the same laptop! Gordon takes Dan through all the testing and benchmarks to determine which version is better

Which one should I get? I am mostly doing CAD work and realistic rendering (SolidWorks, KeyShot) and some casual gaming. -
Where I live they both cost around $2000 and retail the two versions as follows:
1. i7 8750H / GTX 1070 / 32 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD / 1 TB HDD (16 GB more RAM than the AMD version)
2. Ryzen 2700 / RX Vega 56 / 16 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD / 1 TB HDD (Ryzen 2700 and Vega 56 better suited for a workstation)
The Intel version seems more attractive with the 32 GB of RAM, but I can always upgrade that on the AMD one sometime in the future if the AMD version is actually that much better in the work I am doing. I already have a desktop workstation, but I need something portable for travelling that I can work on for hours or let it render for a day without overheating.
So, my question is:
Which one of the two above is better intended for workstation use and which one keeps its cool at doing that - being less loud and doing those tasks for extended periods of time? Also, I don't want to undervolt anything or spend a month playing with temps, I just want a machine that does its thing out of the box.
Any advice is appreciated, thank you!

I've bought Ryzen and Vega combo few months ago. Before that i had Asus i7 8750h and GTX 1070 combination and edited 4k Panasonic gh5 footage with ease on Full quality with few videos on tracks. Than i bought this on paper -beast- and was very dissapointed. Playback not so good as on Asus and whenever i go in and out of full screen Premiere crash. Believe me i've searched whole internet for solution and wrote Adobe what could be problem and nobody could help me. Propably it's bad optimization of Premiere for this hardware cause intel and nvidia are lot better than ryzen and amd for Premiere. I've installed new update few days ago and crash is gone so it must be optimization. But lag is still here. Also full screen in and out is not so smooth but at least it don't crash anymore. Anyway for games and everything else it is really great laptop and cooling is better than Asus. Also very quiet when idle.

Just a note, the reason the Intel/Nvidia laptop runs twice as long on battery as the all AMD laptop when watching a video is because it can use both the Nvidia GPU and the Intel UHD 630 iGPU built into the CPU, it chooses which GPU to use on a per application basis based on load. The AMD laptop on the other hand doesn't have this ability so has to run everything on the Vega 56.

I am in architecture, would prefer 3d rendering and real time floating point test. Raytracing too, this is when you hit render and walk away from your computer for 10min to half and hour or so. Software revit or 3d studio. most firms I worked for use workstation with nvidia quadro cards for the driver.

I got the choice between the amd build and the Intel i7 8750h with the gtx1070. I would only use this for gaming. Which would do the job better. I9 is not available where I life, and I don't find any comparisons between the ryzen 7 2700 and the i7 8750h, could someone help me pls?

I guess the vega 56 is really restricted in a laptop because in dekstops it usually spanks the 1070 quite hard nowadays sometimes even the 1080 like in Red Dead 2 and the power consumption further seems to prove that.

Best machines for virtualization! I don't even gaming but do a lot of virtualisation. I am watching for a deal on the Ryzen model. I hope all manufacturer will void warranty for the guys trying to overclock a laptop.

interesting these tests with different threads. seems like Intel is -in the middle- way better performing with boost. wonder if its also in general at desktops.
