Talking about manipulation: In the 1990's I was on the tech selection committee for Nissan Motor Corp. The Harvard Graphics guys came in to do a presentation on how fast they drew graphs on the screens using a 386 PC. I spoiled their plan by asking why they were using a 386 when the entire company had standardized on the older, slower 286 AST computers.
Then, I worked at Ashton-Tate before that and they redesigned their compiled software to optimize for the test set used by media LIKE PCWorld in comparing features of PC based databases competing with AT's dBase IV. Thus they came out on top because they researched every test algorithm used by the media testers and optimized for those criteria.

100% agree wit youThere's no such a thing like real -leaks-, these are PR marketing strategies done to create hype around upcoming products. With the amount of money manufacturers spend on counter measures for industrial espionage, it would be ridiculous to think they would allow leaks (if that was the real case we would see these manufactures severely punish leakers with lawsuits for breaking NDAs or company contracts) these -leaks- we see are done by their PR department, as easy as their PR/Marketing depts creating accounts in forums or sending themselves the -leaks- to specific people. Same thing happens in the photography products market.

Yup, as many others have already stated, leaks by the companies themselves (Nvidia, Intel, AMD) generate buzz and conversation, and the more we are reading/writing/talking about it, the more we are playing into their hands. They want us to talk about them, it's like free advertising, and a small bit of stealing the other company's thunder. Free marketing is better than costly marketing any day: P

I think that if you think that you are being manipulated by or being forced to report on information which is manipulative to your audience then maybe put that on the title of the video. First, you will get a good number of views. Second, people will begin to associate manipulative behavior to these companies and be more mindful when they go to spend money.

As to handling -Leaks/Rumours-Journalists and Youtubers only ever need to say crystal-clear BEFORE the report, that a rumour is just that, then carry on with the info-let the viewr watch listen at their own discretion from then on. Its as simple as that.
reply

I like the policy mentioned here, of reporting on them but making sure it's very clearly flagged. I like hearing about rumors because I want to know what people are going to be talking about, but I also want to clearly know that it is in fact a rumor.
reply

More rumors the better, creates excitement and intrust, otherwise its stagnant not hereing anything. Also when I design a sotution for a customer, I want to know the wat tech is moving to get them the best product for there applications.
reply

I think when one company is about to release any product, its competitor(s) spread false news to create a big hype about the product. Then people become disappointed when the product is released as it didn't meet their expectations.

Gorden, i started watching your content because of Steve. Thank you for doing these videos with him. its really great to see you two make content together and these pose a question videos are really great.
reply

Of course everyone is, the amount of rabid AMD fanbots everywhere is evidence of marketing tactics.
Imagine getting excited over a CPU post 2013 as a gamer like some sort of gullible idiot. Imagine.
