-44: 00-51: 00 Pixel Peek: I Think it really comes down to the game and your style of play. I personally notice the difference between 4K and 1440p or 1080p so would sacrifice frame rates to run at 4K. This is especially true when playing on a 65- or larger TV where it is the cinematic experience of the game that you care about. -JayzTwoCents did a review or a 65- 4K monitor recently and it was really interesting to see not just call for game devs to use Vulkan instead of Direct3D but also seeing the whole thing of video games as a cinematic experience click for him.
In things like Star Citizen, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Mad Max, Bio Shock, etc I deliberately avoid running and instead slow down to take in the in-game visuals and all the work the artists put into the game environment. Even in racing games and sports games, you do notice things and more so if you run the replays. When I was playing SOTR with HDR or just with even dynamic dimming of on the TV, I feel the difference and noticed the difference with ray tracing and HDR on Metro Exodus.

Gordon, I can't stand VSync and tearing. For some games (Deus Ex: HR, Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 3, LA Noire) VSync is enabled by default, I immediately felt that that the input lag was much too high (I noticed that I had to wait after moving the mouse for the system and monitor to catch up, after I disabled VSsync in these games except for LA Noire (that game completely breaks if you do that because of poor programming) it felt a lot better. When I played Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light I literally quit playing it because the tearing was too distracting for me.
I would like to upgrade to a new monitor with FreeSync, I am waiting for the 27gl850 to become available. I don't know if I will buy that monitor but it might also lower the prices of some other monitors. Hardware Unboxed Tim has looked at this monitor: good response time, good color (though not well calibrated out of the box) but bad contrast, other IPS monitors have better contrast but a worse response time. Pick your poison.

The information about Freesync is outdated, with no mention of Freesync 2 at all, even though monitors have been out for (over) a year now.
-
The issue with the original freesync monitors was that there wasn't really a regulated standard for the monitors, so you could have monitors with terrible sync ranges and no LFC but still technically be Freesync. With Freesync 2 all the monitors are Required to have wider adaptive sync ranges, low framerate compensation (LFC, low latencies and HDR support.
-
With Nvidias -Gsync compatible- Freesync monitors out now, theres a new wave of misinformation being spread, and i think many people who are looking for monitors these days should be aware of what they're getting with a modern -Freensync 2- monitor vs a -Gsync compatible- monitor vs a -Gsync Ultimate- monitor.
Thanks as always for the stream!

I am disappointed in Sapphire, the Pulse seems a step back compared to Vega56, for the Nitro Sapphire went with 8 phases instead of 10, there are 2 empty spots and Red Devil does use 10 phases. Not a huge deal but given the low cost (according to Buildzoid only $2) I would rather have 10 in this case. MSI screwed up with the Evoke but surprisingly their GamingX seems to perform well, I don't know details about their PCB yet though. Red Devil is good on paper but unfortunately it is almost impossible to buy a Red Devil 5700 XT here in Europe. Caseking, the nr1 shop in Germany, doesn't even sell one, in the Netherlands only pre-order.

1080p TN is not a great start with HRR-gaming for somebody who is used to IPS 4k, 1440p IPS is a lot better. For every monitor it is being pointed out which the minimum and maximum refresh-rate are, the better FreeSync-monitors can handle up to 144 FPS for FreeSync and have a minimum in between 30 and 45 FPS. What Brad was talking about is Vsync when you go above the maximum RR (in which case that shouldn't be as much a problem) and there is LFC for when you go below the minimum FPS. Adam, try out BF1/BF5 with that 1440p monitor and use the in-game FPS-cap. That way you get a lower input lag, Hardware Unboxed tested this.

Adam I too had tried several monitors and tvs for about 2 years before i settled for an lg 32gk650f ( the new model is the 850 w/ -hdr- but it cant really do hdr and the extra price just wasnt worth it) This is a 32 in 1440p with freesync range of 50-144 hz flat panel. I use it with an rtx 2060 and love it. Super affordable got mine for 250 at microcenter a few months back. Had to spend a little time getting the colors where i needed them for photos but it has worked flawless and the 144 hz not in games really cuts out the blurring when scrolling. Some day when gpu can run 4k at 144hz we will all go broke.

1080p old and outdated. 1440p yes at 144hz. 4k definitely the best experience at 60-120fps.
Ray tracing looks beautiful. I don't mind single player / coop games at lower fps rtrt on at 1440p high.
Games without RT I just use high refresh. I don't crap my pants if it isn't at 144fps. It's nice but not a must as long as gsync is on and everything is smooth.
I'm trying to get my hands on a RTX 2080 Super to do some comparison tests along side my RTX 2080ti with RT on.

Pulled the trigger on getting a RX5700 xt custom GPU at my local Microcenter based on Brad's reviews along with Steve - gamersnexus input. $399 for a dual fan Powercolor model (Non-Red Devil/Dragon. Running VR and mixed res/multi-monitor setup. Very pleased with how things are looked. Noticed a pleasant bump in VR performance esp in sim-racing titles with settings turned up. Also Running AMD Eyefinity as well in the 3 monitor setup (6400 x 1080) about 6MM pixels.

We are already starting to see the benefits of RTX Ray tracing and now with the streaming the tensor cores. So it's not really a bet on the future anymore because it's here and demonstrated.
If the RTX cards didn't have performance that I can understand worrying. but investing in an RTX card if you want all the features that it has and you stream and like the apps that come with it then it's a definitely good deal.
Much better than the 5700 series

but the xfx didn't use their quick replaceable fans on that cooler. they made those fans and they didn't even put them on those. those would have helped at least when it comes to worrying about fans. most people who don't like to buy cards every year or even every 2 years would love the fact that you could buy just the fans and not have to wait for weeks at a time for your rma'd replacement. specially if the issue is really just the fan.
