I'm an owner from recently purchased Acer Nitro 5 with specs 17, 3 FHD IPS 144hz 1080p, 5800H, 32GB RAM (16+16) and RTX3080 so I thought I might share some insight to whomever has second thoughts about purchasing this particular model. Currently I'm only playing RD2 on ultra with anti aliasing options switched off at convenient 60 fps, give or take. GPU has taken up around 5GB of VRAM out of 8gb available. If you push any other settings fps will instantly drop because you are POWER RESTRICTED. GPU to 100watts while the CPU at 25watts with usage usually less than 50%. The CPU runs around 90 degrees with 25 max wattage while GPU runs cooler at around 70-75 degrees with 100% usage and 100 watt usage. This is achieved on balance mode on battery settings and auto mode with fans. At some places game uses up to 18gb of system RAM but it's anywhere between 12 and 18 gigs. Looking at Legion PRO 5 with the same CPU and RTX 3070 pumped with 140 watt with even better thermals makes me wonder if I made the right purchase. it's got nothing to do that I'm not satisfied with this laptop but kinda been wondering If could have paid less for even more performance. I paid around 2000 euros for this model and legions with rtx 3070 and 5800h started popping out for around 1800 euros (and that is with even faster nvme drive and 165hz QHD screen)
edit- 20. 2. 2022 so I've been using my first nitro for some time now and I can safely say this laptop has somewhat thermal issues while fans are on balanced mode from playing rdr2 on ultra settings 1080p. While it doesn't throttle after prolonged gaming I would still like to see lower temperatures. On max spin fan noise is just dreadful for your ears. I plan on solving this by buying thermaltake 20rgb cooling pad. Reading comments from other nitro and predator users on acer forums, I came across ryzen controller app that allows for various performance tweaks around your CPU/GPU. and what I've have done so far is manually decreased CPU TDP from 25 (which is default) to 10 and max temp 85 to 65 degrees without any performance loss! All 8 cores are clocked around 2800mhz and GPU around 1545 mhz but this can vary depending on location on map. Worth mentioning this also allows battery not to drain while gaming, yes you heard that right, in some scenarios power from outlet just won't cut it. Interestingly enough, the GPU temperature now close follows CPU all the while fan noise is acceptable. Still, take all of this with a grain of salt, fps tends to drop from 60ties to 40ties while in city as CPU needs from juice from the power outlet which I have restricted. It's not ideal but in my case definitely worth the trouble.

why are there so many nitro 5 laptops, nitro was low end, predator mid, and errr legion or triton or something was high end. acer is like me in a survival game, i organize at first, then just end up getting lazy and tossing everything into one chest until it fills up without any care for organization. its not even like they tier their series in any meaningful way anymore, nor do they have an -intel model/amd model- its just heres abunch of nitro 5s, and for some reason one happens to be better than our top tier. whats the difference between a predator and a nitro 5, thats the great mystery, i have a predator, and ive used a nitro 5. nothing is different, except the nitro 5 looks a little nicer. acer makes intel look good in that respect. i really want to know whats going on, its like their marketing team has adhd. there is no method to their madness!

I bought the Acer Nitro 5 with a I7 11370H and GTX 1650 a few weeks ago brand new and it was a brick, it would not turn on. I Googled the problem and came across the power connecter issue. You have to push the power plug into the rear of the laptop very hard until you hear a click and hey presto! It worked!
Then I was thinking why didnt the battery turn the laptop on? The battery was completely discharged! Then I checked the build date and it was manufactured only around 2 months before I purchased it. There should have been even a small battery charge surely? Unbelievable. Anyway it's working great now and so is the battery. Acer, you need to do better.

this is the lowest priced laptop with rtx 3080. too low price makes me suspect this laptop is somehow defective or has major flaws in thermal, design or screen. i usually go for major brands like MSI, asus or alienware. is this reliable? only 2099 usd now at newegg; )

But the 3070 you have in the test appears to also be powered down. It would be interesting to see a full powered 3070 Vs this - from what I've seen the 3070 will outperform this.

the acer product lineup makes about as much sense as intel cpu skus on crack. fine for seasoned builders, but new buyers? its a scam. i dont agree with their strategy.

Something is seriously wrong with these Time Spy Graphics scores: GTX 1650 maxQ gets 8773, 2060 maxQ gets 9264 and RX 6800m 8980 points? Like what the hell?

I really wish I could get a desktop keyboard that size, with a ten-key. It'd make my switch between laptop and desktop so much smoother.
