This is exactly what I was looking for! I kept finding videos about downloading and paying for premade mock-ups. I wanted to understand how to make my own with any image and actually have the image look like its blended with the natural lighting, other tuts were basically drag and drop. Its so apparent when you just slap your art onto something because the lighting and colors in the original image dont match.
I understand masking, clipping, blending modes and smart objects, but I would have never thought to break down the shadows and lights this way or to use 50 percent gray. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! This is the simplest, most straightforward tutorial on mockups I have ever watched.
I do have one issue when saving it to. psdt though. After saving it, the file comes out as filename. psdt. psd. I tried manually editing the filename and removing the. psd but when I open the file, it still reverts back to filename. psdt. psd
Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
P. S. I'm using Adobe 2022

How come when I double click that newly created smart filter on the rectangle, it opens new document where the fill of that smart object is in perspective? It doesn't open the file where the fill is full frontal filling the whole frame, but it's just opens that same shape in perspective as a smart object?
Thanks!

Hey, I'm unable to save the file as a. psdt file. If i try to open it after saving, photoshop gives the following message: could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document. What seems to be the problem? I'm using PS CS6. Thanks!

Found this tutorial while looking for how to make mockups, like the actual physical product the design goes on. This is the missing piece of the puzzle. Thank you SO much for being clear and concise. This really helped me. You're a great teacher!

Wow! Thank you very much for this tutorial. I always liked being able to better customize mockups. I ask you a question to go to another level. How would you change the background (or leave it transparent) including the original model drop shadow?

In my case, My mockup is angled and When I double click on my smart object, the new tab where i'm supposed to add my image is a layer that is also angled and not straight. Hope that makes sense, what am I doing wrong?

Great tutorial - does anone know how to create a wrap around placeholder so the design naturally curves round the object like a mug or a can? Is there a tutorial on this somewhere? Thanks

For some reason it is not working for me to change the image although I made all steps. It says after putting cmd+s it cannot save that file. Any suggestions why is that happening?
